This sound installation was designed at a research station in Jatun Sacha in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Some sounds were ultrasonic recordings made in the jungle isolated and pitched down. 10 speakers were set up in trees in the forest and converted electrical signals in plants into sound in realtime .  Each sound had its own trajectory as it wound its way around the forest. After it was designed the installation took place in the Botanic Gardens in Quito 23 rd November 2013. The installation was called "Bosque Encantado" or "Enchanted forest" , This is a stereo mixdown or a multichannel sound installation that covered an acre or so of cloud forest in the botanic garden - you'll have to imagine these sounds flying around you in a candlelit forest at night.

Internal affairs

The first track I ever made on a computer - which to my utter amazement was played on John Peel

This was commisioned by the Eden project in Cornwall for their "Biomes at night" evening.  This is a stereo mixdown of part of the original sound installation which consisted of two P.A.s and several smaller speakers placed in strategic, hidden, locations over 1.5 hectares of indoor rainforest.  
Its not really a track to just listen to at home unless perhaps you want to relax. It can however be a D.I.Y. sound installation. If you put the speakers in the garden hidden in the bushes, the further the speakers are apart the better, it will transform your garden into a mysterious tropical forest. Let me know the results if you try this.
All sounds were recorded by myself in SEAsia and Peru - as a matter of fact , whilst in Laos my girlfiend and and I became stranded in a  storm ,in a valley in the middle of nowhere. With only a bamboo farmers hut for shelter we were nearly struck by lightning whilst recording the thunder for this piece .

I made it partly by puting the ambient "biolumunescent sounds " onto a cd and then playing them through a small cd paleyr on the patio (actually it was a balcony) . I then set up a microphone inside the living room and the effect you get is the sound of the sliding doors being opened and letting the sound in.






Bio Luminescent patio

Stick the speakers in the bushes !  Shortlyish to be released on 5.1 DVD. This is a stereo mixdown of part of a multispeaker sound art installation at the Eden project . It covered several acres inside the Eden project's tropical biome and was commisioned for Hallowedens "Skate and scream" .
The event was great fun with 1.5 hectares of indoor rainforest filled with creepy noises and actors who all got well into their roles. Groups of up to 20 people walked through the largest indoor tropical forest in the world in complete darkness. One group was so scared they tried to escape through the fire exit ! Using parts of the previous "Biomes at night"installation as its base much of the original soundscape was stripped out and replaced with more "spooky" sounds. The installation also features various themes from mythology traditionally associated with Halloween such as " The wild hunt" . The crown jewel of the installation was piece of live sound and performance art revolving around the myth of Pan and Echo. Actor Graham Naiken dressed as Pan several metres tall on stilts and eerily lit in a forest glade with his vocals processed live with GRM tools made for quite a spectacle - whatever he said was echoed back to the listener from speakers hidden around the bushes and hillsides - just as in the story of Pan and Echo. The biggest challenge was incorporating European myths of Halloween into the enviroment of a tropical forest without sounding incongruous - what you hear here is a small part of the end result !
