Epic Vinyls from Brazil aka. DJ Contracapa, a Danish musicologist and huge Brazilian music fanatic, presents his first mixtape for The Lake. For an hour he takes us through the emotional depths of samba/bossa, afro brazilian, haunting vocals and spiritual songs, all collected over the last 15 years during many travels to Brazil.

MIXTAPE: Epic vinyls from Brazil #1

"Blues No. 4" is one of the seven mesmerizing pieces from Loren Connors' 1990 masterpiece, "Blues: The 'Dark Paintings' of Mark Rothko" -- an LP originally released on Connors' St. Joan imprint in a handmade edition of 300 copies. Family Vineyard is reissuing this album on May 12, 2015. For this reissue, engineer Taylor Deupree restored the audio to Connors’ specifications of how these instrumentals were intended to sound. As half of Matmos, Schmidt has worked with Terry Riley, Björk, Kronos Quartet, Peter Rehberg, INA-GRM, Rrose, Marshall Allen, Horse Lords, People Like Us, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Antony Hegarty, William Basinski, and many more. Batu Malablab, his first solo album, works a dislocating magic, indulging in a tradition of western fantasy of non-western music. Recalling gamelan-inspired experimental classics such as John Cage's prepared piano work, Can's "Ethnological Forgery Series," and Jon Hassell's "Fourth World" ambient music (GB 019CD/LP), Batu Malablab is imaginary global music made in the Baltimore basement studio pictured on the back of the album.
