Hi all,

It was raining heavily this evening (or I guess last night now, it’s late) and I spent some time sitting outside listening to it and sometimes running around or lying down; later I balanced microphones in my windows and did some recording.
Then afterwards I was reading Sandman, listening to ambient music, and ended up making some of my own.

These last weeks have been difficult. AP tests and high school sleep patterns and a slew of other things have left me exhausted and numb, and progress on my plans- finishing and releasing the album and several remixes, moving on to more interesting, exciting projects- has fallen to the side as I scramble to hold everything else.

So this track is a bit of ambient realism, a forgotten transmission from the kind of thing I'm hoping to return to once this is all done with. It was done in a few hours late at night; the rain was recorded, i generated several instruments, and I pulled samples from all sorts of old projects. It was made on borrowed time.
For anyone in the middle of things they aren't sure how to change, or in a place they never intended to be, or who find themselves simply tired. For everyone, but at different times.

Thanks for hanging on all this time, if you did, and for making it through my wall of text. I’m looking forward to releasing the album, and moving on.

Update: Apple repaired my laptop and I was able to restore most of my data. Downside is the repair cost made it too expensive for me to own now, so I'll be selling it and buying a cheaper, older one in the next while.

A few days ago, my macbook pro (which has survived for years and has been owned by at least three people) crashed during an OS upgrade. There are many possible reasons, but the hard drive is inaccessible and impossible to boot from.
My last backup was in late January, and by some miracle I exported this track as a work in progress (which is rare for me) and made a backup the very next day.
I've shipped my laptop off to be totally refurbished, and I thought I had lost this track. I'm lucky to be wrong.
Just a reminder to live as fully as you can, because nothing lasts. And back up your goddamn data! :)

Something I've been working on for weeks. Not totally happy with it, but here it is. Moving towards the type of music I'm hoping to make in the future- experimenting, working with new methods and sounds and composing techniques.

this piece isn’t about any event in particular. Nothing special happened a year ago today, but that was when I recorded the central chord structure, close to midnight in July of 2016, and let it drift into the past, unfinished, un-listened-to until today. Stumbling across this recording was unsettling because it reminds me how frequently we encounter fantastic things and fail to meet them, to integrate them into our lives. Living in anticipation of the sublime, the unforseen imposition of the other onto mundane life, carries the pretext of our being able to adequately respond; this piece has something to do with the realization that I am not always able to. I'm trying to accept that.

one year ago today

Sam Angl asked me to score a project he shot in 1-second increments every day of 2017. I really love the video– it's hilarious, and poignant, and candid, and my soundtrack tries to evoke that ecstatic/sad/nostalgic/funny/pensive feeling. each 0:01 shot has a fleeting presence, and also this indelible sense of past-ness, that i love. inevitably, the track also drew from my experience (wonderfully/agonizingly polarized) of last year.
