My first iPad music app+harware combo was MPC Live, Totally unusable bomb.
Korg iMS-20 was,in my case,THE first app. I like Analog sound(digital of this case).
Today's music producion are much more advanced and **easy to get started.
On the web you can find a TONS of software,apps etc.
As you can see the picture of my harware setup. It is nice to play hardware,but you can also make music using controller and software.In that case,number of intrumenst is unlimited.
