Influences: Oh gosh. As far as scenes that influenced me, the gay party scene from the late 90s and African American house tracks were huge. I have so many party friends and DJs that I heard back in the early/mid 2000s but the ones that really come to mind when I was getting started were local friends from Buffalo, some of whom still live here and are still active in the scene: Abbey Madigan Morejon (AbStyles) who I rely on to bitch and laugh about the crappy male-dominated parts of the scene with me and who taught me how to use CDJs; Darren Orlowski (Dirwood) who's now in California and played the funkiest house ever at an early-2000s weekly here in Buffalo; and Lauren Whistler (Loryn) who's now in Berlin by way of San Fran and who sold me my first set of Stanton turntables. I call those my "first-wave" influencers. But there are tons of people at least a decade younger than me now here in Buffalo that I've known for 5-10 years that I love and who keep me loving the scene: Alicia Greco who's now in Chicago but always has a million music projects going on and so inspires me to get off my ass and make one piddly mix; Rufus Gibson who's also from Buffalo like me and who's just a goofy dude who makes amazing bumpin' house tunes and is in on throwing lots of different Buffalo parties; and Ted Hawkins who's a transport from Cali but is old, crusty and funny like me and damn does he have some good insight on the scene's changes in addition to great taste in house music. Last, a huge influence who sold me maybe half my vinyl collection over the years is Larry Jeter, who used to run Dimensions in Music in downtown Baltimore before he moved it to the north edge of the city. I used to go to Baltimore a few times a year from about 2005 until maybe 2016 and scoop up hundreds of dollars of his amazing vinyl. 

Affiliations/Residencies/Projects: Buffalo House Music Preservation Society (not super active with this but the older I get I feel like it reinforces my mission to keep old-school house alive while blending it with the new... who knows what the future will bring with music!); Underground Get Down (the last party series I threw myself here in Buffalo a few years ago with my buddy Patrick McLaughlin, who pushed me to keep doing nights and was pretty much my total opposite but an awesome friend); Peace. Luv. House! (the first parties I did for almost two years at two different venues here in Buffalo starting in 2012)

Advice for the DJs, producers and artists of our community: Seek out supportive mentors who you can talk shop with, whether it's about equipment, technology, tracks, challenging and supporting each other. Also, record your music religiously and listen back - that was a huge help when I was teaching myself how to mix vinyl. Finally, don't worry about being perfect - if you do, you might get caught up in your head and never share your passion for music with others and make connections to people who would love your music (and those connections are what it's all about - finding others who love your music or art just as much as you do).
