This is originally from around 2008, A James Bond-esque song, like a cross between Octopussy and Goldfinger. I started it in something like 12/8 and then decided 4/4 was better for more of an electronic "The World Is Not Enough" vibe. But the "Bond-like" stuff doesn't translate well to the new time signature. And 15 years later, half my soft synths don't work. So this is a mix of the two different time signatures, one more electronic and one more jazzy. I never did fix it up because I couldn't find somebody to sing it. But now Synthesizer V isn't bad out of the box. I might be able to improve the vocals a bit after I tackle the music. It is far from done, but it has taken 15 years to get this far, so I thought I might as well share it.

Pussyfinger 2023 0.2 (Synthesizer V vocals)

Pearl Jam's Future Days and the opening lyrics, "If I ever were to lose you / I'd surely lose myself" were a big part of the video game The Last of Us Part II, with thematic weight. In the game, the outbreak happened around the time the song was actually released, 2013, and live versions of the song were available.
In HBO's The Last of Us TV show, they changed the outbreak to 2003, so some say it doesn't make sense to use a song that wasn't around until a decade later. I don't think it matters. Joel could have heard it somewhere. It isn't like we've had a fungal outbreak, so who cares what year a song is from?
Still, if they want to replace it, there are plenty of good song. I thought Johnny Cash's version of Nine Inch Nails' Hurt would be a good choice. Johnny Cash passed away September 12, 2003. Outbreak day in the show was September 26, 2003. That seems fitting. And the lines, "I hurt myself today / To see if I still feel" and "What have I become / My sweetest friend / Everyone I know / Goes away in the end" also fit with the themes of the second game and second season.
This is just a quick mock-up with a bad midi guitar and vocals by Solaria, one of the vocal instrument Synthesizer V's voices, because it is past my bedtime! I don't think it sounds too bad. I might even dig out my guitar and finish it.
I think Ashley Johnson should do a version, even if it isn't for the game or show.

When I first got the vocal plugin Synthesizer V in 2023 I downloaded a bunch of vocal files from the Internet. It can supposedly read older, more-robotic Vocaloid files. I found a file of ABBA's Fernando. I loaded it up and it played, but many of the vowels were wrong. It kinda made me laugh.
Being bored this weekend, I took the Vocaloid file and rendered it with Synthesizer V's Natalie and Sheena voices, with Hayden and Kevin also in the background. I kept the bad vowels the same, added a MIDI karaoke track I found, mapped some standard MIDI instruments, and ran the Synthesizer V female vocals through RVC, a voice cloning AI app, with quickly-made models of Agnetha and Anni-Frid I made myself.
So this is the result.
I think with some work I could actually make a decent ABBA-esque song with Synthesizer V and RVC.
But I love this one just for the mispronunciations, besides Fernandooo, also gweetar, boogle calls, eternal-lie, liber-tie, and all the rest.
