O Yuki Conjugate have been active since 1982. Initially embracing Post Punk currents they evolved into early pioneers of Fourth World music and still very active have never stopped evolving. In the mid 90s their music briefly crossed over with the fringes of the club scene as their “Equator” album became something of an ambient classic. Signed to ultra cult Dutch label Staalplaat, a label as far removed from the club world as one might imagine, they nevertheless decided to release a club friendly 12” with a remix from Charles Webster that became an E Music classic. Perhaps the least known of his remixes this ten minute epic take on their ambient masterpiece will melt the hardest heart. 

The original Staalplaat 12” is almost impossible to find so Optimo Music is delighted to make it available again in a slightly reconfigured version. Three divine Sunchemical takes from OYC and a Charles Webster remix that a quarter of a century later sounds as if it might just have been created. Comes in a full colour sleeve designed by Andrew Beltran. Mastered by James Savage.

African Head Charge perform live at Le Guess Who? 2023 following the release of their new album 'A Trip To Bolgatanga'.

'A bad attitude is like a flat tire - you can't go anywhere until you change it'. So commences African Head Charge's new record 'A Trip To Bolgatanga' - their first in twelve years. The legendary dub-reggae ensemble's 2023 return is led by founder-member Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah, assisted by collaborator Adrian Sherwood. After a hiatus, the 1981-founded band’s stunning comeback sees them return to the stage, with a line-up featuring original African Head Charge members. Currently, they fuse djembes, guitars, drums, keys and vocals with heavy electronic sampling and visuals. Their intoxicating live performance will certainly be a balm to anyone's bad attitude.

“Voices of Dust” is the third and final part in Demdike Stare’s trilogy of albums for 2010. The album opens with an analogue tape drone that seems to suck the light out of whatever environment you might find yourself in, powering up Demdike’s machinery for the bellydance disco assault of “Hashshashin Chant” that follows. “Repository Of Light” takes another diversion, this time wading through the gaseous environs that made the MVO trio’s debut album so memorable earlier this year, before “Desert Ascetic” flips things over for a dusted, relentless assault on the souk. The album ends with the decaying loops of “A Tale Of Sand”, leaving you with a bittersweet aftertaste and absolutely no sense of closure whatsoever...
