A few weeks ago I had the incredible opportunity of playing at the magnificent Place of Dreams in the Karoo for some mates joint birthday party. Over the weekend I played over 10hrs of music split across 6/7 sets, of which 4 I managed to record, covering my full range.

Here's the first of the recordings, from the Saturday early afternoon opening the main, Canyon stage, after playing a couple hours back at the camp site easing everyone into the day. This is probably my favourite opening/downtempo set of mine so far - a collection of some of my absolute favourites - a listening session for myself on the powerful KV2 Audio rig - what a treat!

Playing the music you love at the ideal peak time you love to play it is great and easy. Doing a job for a night and putting your own agenda aside is a different thing, and the art of the warm up set Is important for a big night. No point playing bangers to an empty room. To play on such a beautiful stage, at such an epic and important venue in Brisbane, at probably the biggest straight up techno party Brisbane has seen was an honour. It’s not an easy transition taking it from an empty room to handing over to the boss of bush records in an hour. But it was a chance to play some deeper tracks, to be ok with being totally unprepared for a set and feel it out, to run long mixes, close my eyes and feel the moment, and lay the foundation for an epic night. Here it is, my opening set for Pure Brisbane 2022. Enjoy !!

ESOTERIC EXPANSE 5 is the fifth entry in DJ Basilisk’s Esoteric Expanse series, an ambitious series of long-form mixes dedicated to sonic world-building and cross-genre experimentation. Four hours and 70 meticulously curated selections await, opening with a hypnotic blend of ambient, downtempo, IDM, electro, and breaks before widening horizons with cosmic disco, acid house, progressive trance, and dub techno, always with a psychedelic touch. There is an earthy and organic aesthetic to many of these selections, wispy echoes of the starlit dance floors and resplendent chill domes of some counter-clock world orbiting on the far side of the sun.
