As population density grows and urbanisation spreads, the relationship between nature and industrialisation becomes more strenuous. Abhainn is a soundscape that pinpoints the placement of rivers amongst modern societies. This piece follows the River Barrow, from its source up in the Slieve Bloom Mountains, through towns across Co. Laois. As the river grows, intersecting roads and built up areas, industrial noise starts to leak through.  Abhainn focuses on the equilibrium between the river’s wildlife and manmade sound adaptations created through time.

They Made it the Location is a soundscape mapping a route travelled regularly by thousands of Egyptian men and women on foot during the 2011 Egyptian Revolution. The route mapped in this piece is carefully chosen in response to conversations had with Egyptian citizens, whilst in Cairo, seven years on from the revolution. The audio presented shows the development and changes faced by the city seven years on.
