It was a dark world, a mass of rock untouched by the gaze of light for millennia. Its only companion was a dead star, black and cold. They danced around each other—never meeting or separating—as they drifted through space.

A strange signal drew me to this planet, one just barely caught by my devices. Had I been any further away, I might have missed it entirely. The anomaly certainly granted it further investigation though.

Landing was rather perilous. My ship provided the only light, which flooded onto ice-skinned mountains. The signal's source was precise; through a splintered nest of stone and snow I found a lone cave entrance.

It led to a deep chamber. Torches lined the walls, disappearing into the distance. They were dim, but amidst the otherwise complete darkness they all but blinded me.

I realized I was not alone. A figure slowly emerged from the shadows.

Its head was that of a lion, with a mane cascading down in rich gold streaks onto otherwise colorless robes. Each step was deliberate, purposeful, measured. In its hands was a box of gray wood. In its eyes was a fire, restrained yet raging.

Though its mouth moved not, I heard its feral voice. It came from every direction. The words were a warning, I somehow understood. It continued to calmly approach me, but its expression was closer to a snarl. It was delivering on an ageless promise, but not without imparting its own prophecy.

Slowly but with unwavering intention it handed the box to me. The wood was cold and heavier than I expected, weighing upon my hands as if it only desired to be dropped and forgotten, but I grasped it tightly.

Without breaking gaze, the creature retreated back into shadow, its animalistic utterances still echoing off the stone walls. I was left wondering what I had stumbled upon.

I have no answers, and I know not whether I should open the box. Whenever I gaze upon it, the warning resounds in my mind and I remember that some things are better left a mystery for now.

Just played this out and thought it sounded good. :)

When morning comes, the sunrise will follow, and then the flowers will  begin to bloom.

"Rebirth" is the first track of the EP  "O R I G I N S"  by the author and composer Mroz. Close your eyes and let yourself be carried away by this ode to Nature and let your inner self be guided by this forgotten language.

THE SECONDS OF DAWN • Ambient Cello Improvisation with Electrosounds

Artifex (noun - Latin): practitioner of an art, craftsman, creator

This track acts as a small case study, epitomizing both my sound and what I try to achieve with my music. I start with a blank canvas and employ the simplest of motifs, a pulse on a single tone. With each subsequent layer I try to add intrigue and detail, giving a direction to the piece and painting a picture for the listener. Each layer is treated analogously to how an engineer would make use of a fundamental principle in their trade, ultimately arriving at something comprised of much greater complexity.  Finally, a simple harmonic structure is introduced, rich and vibrant in tonality, which I attempt to complement through the continued use of driving percussive elements. I intended the final product to feel built from the ground up like a group of architects beginning construction on a monument, only with the brick and mortar and mathematical axioms substituted by sonic motifs.
