Here is a stripped down and specialized mix sample for the opening section of "War", from the 2012 Triple Edge Records release, "War of the Songs of Light Against the Songs of Darkness".  The drums and guitar lead are removed, and the synth strings are turned up to reveal some of the subtle but important chords contained within.

Behind The Construct: War (Stripped Mix Sample w/Keyboard Emphasis)

This entry in the "Behind The Construct" series features a stripped down mix of the middle section from "Moving Day", starting from the first chorus and continuing through the final verse.  Several elements are removed from the original, including drums, bass guitar, vocal and one of the electric guitar appearances.  The resulting sound is an enjoyable mixture of acoustic elements and layers of keyboard production.  The original album mix can be found on the 2015 Triple Edge Records release, "The Human Condition".

Behind The Construct: Moving Day (Stripped Mix Sample)

In the album version of this song, there is a sizable wall of drums and percussion that builds during the guitar solo and continues through the end of the piece.  During the original mixing process, I felt that the percussion element sounded very strong on its own.  This specialized sample showcases that same percussion element on the recording with all other tracks muted.  The album version of "Monster" can be found on the 2012 Triple Edge Records release, "War of the Songs of Light Against the Songs of Darkness".

"Superheroes" contains a series of production ingredients that are very lightly sprinkled in the final mix, along with some foundational chord sequences that I am very fond of.  This specialized mix sample reveals both in a more prominent fashion, extending from the first chorus through the end of the song with some elements muted (including the drums, vocal and acoustic guitar solo) and other elements releveled for a new look behind the construct. A song that was originally intended for the 2015 full-length, "The Human Condition" but cut during the recording process.  I recently finished this track and have enjoyed listening to the result.  I hope you do as well.

Just Above Zero

Austin Taft is a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist focused on making unique and intriguing music – whatever that should entail.  The new album, “Skeletons”, has been self-described as “Prog-Metal-That-Sometimes-Isn't”. This joins his previously released acoustic album (“The Human Condition”) and several additional releases to continue the trend of producing eclectic and deeply challenging records. Austin's live band, The Austin Taft Soundtrack, is a rock outfit which performs a multitude of songs from the ever-expanding catalogue, specifically arranged for the live stage.  This collective has built a strong reputation for reliably bold performances, opening for such national acts as Days of the New, Powerman 5000, Rains, Tantric, Future Leaders of the World, Sponge, (hed) p.e., Orgy, My Darkest Days and Taproot among others.
