Katharine had the first of her two children before returning to Melbourne and putting on high-vibe parties at the infamous Killing Time Bar & My Aeon, always with a tight crew of Australia’s best underground djs. Now they have their forward thinking electronic music label Motion:Theory:Music representing local artists. 

Katharine has played magical closing sets out in the bush, as her unique way elevates and deeply satisfies at both sunset & sunrise. Here we bring you the 7th version of Radio Mesa, thoughtfully curated and mixed by none other than Katharine Abrahams. Katharine is a staple dj in the Melbourne dance community. She and her husband Ben Abrahams run Motion Theory Music and have been throwing parties and dropping beats for as long as they can remember. Katharine's style is funky, minimal, and driving, with a friendly dose of psychedelia. We have been loving listening to her mixes this year and we were just thrilled that she was ready and willing to put one together for us!!! Enjoy!

The music is over 6 years old & came together in an unplanned session that long ago.

I originally made it for the Romanian Podcast Series ART E.  The series was curated by Sabina Muller who had gathered a great collection of artists.

They are married, have children, friends, animals and lots of records. Their parties have always drawn those who crave it deep, and like to emerge in the early hours enhanced and inspired. Their sound blurs the line between house and techno; slightly sideways & always psychedelic; it's liquid dub for the dance floor. Ben and Katharine play at parties, for collectives and renowned club nights between Byron and Melbourne, while lovingly affiliated with the Killing Time Bar. Be enhanced by their spontaneous mutual vibration appreciation.

Together they created ‘Strange Brew’, an all ages acid-house vinyl party at the Billinudgel Pub, Byron Bay, at which time the infamous 'Shed' was built;  revelling in the Outback for sunset was deliciously surreal, dancing to stripped back house grooves amongst the gum trees. 

They ran eight extremely memorable years of Saturday nights at Elsewhere Bar on the Gold Coast. Katharine played psychedelic house before Ben's killer 5 hour sets, then both joined together for the heaving sweaty early morning hours.  Elsewhere won Best Music for a Club in Australia at the Sydney Bar Music Awards at that time. All vinyl back then.

Katharine made mixes for Art-E Romania and the Microtechno Podcast series 9 years ago, having long been recognised for her way with intricate sounds, particularly with lovers of micro-house & the Romanian influenced minimal.  She appreciates music which alludes to the transcendent - both gently & powerfully.  As an undeniably charged up being she just keeps on lovingly creating fresh soundtracks for her friends’ lives. Last year she made 21 mixes for amazing collectives around the world, including Half is Enough Romania's Strangers in the Night: each session is an experience. 

Her unique way elevates and deeply satisfies at both sunset & sunrise, and she has played magical closing sets out in the forest, most recently for the Comfort Zone crew on their final day on the main stage by the creek.
