Nomad Groovers #3 By DIEREVA

Philip Rex aka Tonelab is an Australian artist based in Melbourne who has also released on labels such as Traum. Philip Rex has been involved in music from a young age and before his career in electronic music, he was a jazz musician famed for being one of Australia's most in-demand double bass players. He was also one half of the Decoy duo and has played at festivals across the globe such as Vuuv, Glade, Wonderland, Rainbow Serpent, Earthcore, Eclipse and Maitreya.

El Mundo featured on the last Flow Music release when he collaborated on a remix with regular production partner Zazou. This time the German producer is working in a solo capacity in the deep and organic style he has previously featured on the likes of Crosstown Rebels, Get Physical and Akbal Music.

Nōpi is a young Ukrainian producer whose making his debut on Flow Music following outings on scene-leading record labels such as Anjunadeep, Do Not Sit and All Day I Dream.

“Inhale Exhale” is the EP's original track and it's got a slow-burning groove with haunting male vocals and poignant chords layered with soaring pads and dance floor focused percussion. Nōpi's remix of Inhale Exhale strips back the original and layers new tribal percussion plus a sub-heavy bassline to create a techy version full of atmosphere. El Mundo’s remix introduces a new piano riff to create a spine-tingling version that’s full of suspense, while the original's vocals fill it with emotion.

How did you decide to begin DJ-ing?
"Once I moved to Sofia I was undoubtedly affected by the whirlwind of music genres that the night life in the capital of Bulgaria has to offer."

How would you describe your style?
"My distinct sound can be classified as organic, melodic-progressive, melodic-tech downtempo. I also dabble into the micro and minimal sound."

Where does your inspiration come from?
"My inspiration comes from the idea of storytelling. How through music you can embark on a journey to different places without moving. This is something I am always trying to incorporate into the creation of my mixes."

Who would you say will enjoy the style of music you play?
"Everyone but especially someone who is prepared to dive into the breathtaking atmospheric sounds, tribal drums, oriental flutes and ethnic vocals. Sounds that could  help one reach the furthest corners of their soul."

We journey into the heart of the Hindu Kush Mountains, seeking the source of the Indus River, seeking the beginning of history, of civilization, of our consciousness in the highest spiritual way. It feels like a really deep high from the very best Hindu Kush strain of Indica cannabis.
"Indus"
This song is the stage of the journey where we find the Indus River, water of life, source of humanity, source of the spirit. This song is heavenly, celestial, and even more transcendental than Hindu Kush. It begins with deep, droning sitar, super meditative in atmosphere, otherworldly, set to a mesmerizing tabla drum. When we encounter the pure, fast-flowing headwaters, we are filled with the mighty rush of divine water and wind from high in the mountain and high in the heavens. Born and raised out of West Berlin Michel had only music and collecting records on his mind from an early age. Influenced by British ‚77 punk- rock and US punk from the late 80ies he soon realised musical boundaries were nothing for him. His equally large passion for hip-hop paved the way to first electronic productions. Big beat, drum ‚n‘ bass, acid techno, early spiral tribe stuff...His first fusion festival in early 2000 as well as many illegal open airs and parties in a Berlin filled with open spaces after the fall of the wall, made clear the path he would take. Up until then a party DJ with diverse genres, his passion for techno/house music steadily grew. Through own events with Bachstelzen, a collective of organisers that has greatly influenced Berlin‘s party scene with its events in elaborately themed off-locations, the course was set for frequent techno/house DJ gigs.
