The Evil Ones was first a random thought about life. The basic thought being why does it seem that evil is sometimes rewarded whereas goodness or making the choice to be good can bring suffering. The foundation of this thought was from childhood when Steve, who has been legally blind since birth, was bullied in school. At the time of the writing of The Evil Ones, however, it was through many conversations between Heather and Steve and an observation of others yearning for love and happiness. A struggle where someone is given love and did not appreciate the love which they were given and another trying to give love only to be met by many obstacles. The Evil Ones begins with a question at a point of pain and moves through to defiance and to a realization that true love is worth the struggle and to not waste any more time on those that don’t deserve your love. A question about love and life in the wee hours of the morning became lyrics by midday and music in a basement jam session with Heather by days end.
