A girl wishes to learn how to play piano, something that she has never been able to do until now. Upon finding a room with a piano, she also comes upon an individual who is quite eloquent with the keys. She asks him how he plays the piano, and how to write beautiful songs.

So, like the beginning of the song, he asks her to play three notes, to which he plays accompanying chords underneath. From that day forth, she becomes more and more proficient on the piano, under his guidance, and, eventually, they fall in love.

As they perform together and separately throughout the next few years, the extremities of their musicianship begin to surface. He, who performed dramatic melodies and intense chords, and her, who performed whimsy melodies and graceful chords... they soon fell out of each others' lives.

At the end after much time has passed, they find a chance to perform one last song together, before they part ways again.
