Smalltown DJs understand the physics of party music better than almost anyone on the planet. (What else would you expect from two selectors who actually built their own nightclub?) Their energetic, inventive sets have taken the duo around the globe, and their original productions are spun by the likes of A-Trak, Diplo, Annie Mac and more. Yet even veterans are able to surprise, and Smalltown's latest, "See Thru," is a true revelation of a tune. This hybrid jam, built around the soulful vocals of Lisa Lobsinger (Broken Social Scene), manages to feel equally at home slamming a club's main floor or anchoring an after party playlist. Following on from his Anjunadeep Explorations debut last summer, emerging German DJ/producer Ben Böhmer returns to the label for his first solo outing with a trio of melodic weapons on ‘Morning Falls EP’. The EP opens with the rolling melodies of ‘Morning Falls’ before drifting into peak time club cut ‘After Earth’. Böhmer rounds off the EP with the laid back grooves of ‘Velvet Rebellion’ which also features his friend and frequent collaborator Wood.

Claptone is a unique proposition in modern music. Painted as a mythical character shrouded in mystery, Claptone has become one of the biggest names in electronic music whilst himself remaining in the shadows. He has however constantly sought to deepen his own distinctive world, creating a rich tapestry, which tells the Claptone story.

In his second artist album ‘Fantast’, the Claptone universe is at its deepest and most vivid. He is the master of his domain and in his most artful offering yet, the assured 13 tracks of 'Fantast' come together to create an album full of varied colours and atmospheric textures.

In music Claptone seeks not to create a world of secrecy, but one of great depth and intrigue. An enigma with a tireless desire for creativity and thirst for new music, Claptone has brought together a diverse group of collaborators such as Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke, Blaenavon, Tender, Jones, Zola Blood, Austra’s Katie Stelmanis, The Boxer Rebellion’s Nathan Nicholson, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Joan as a Policewoman and Matt Simons.  

'Over the last two years it has been a great pleasure to work on this album as a counterpoint to the hectic world of travelling as a DJ. To lose myself when making music, to dive into and create my very own realm of beauty. I admit it's a dreamy, a heartfelt, at times a naive and surely escapist album, but what to do if one - on the quest for his soul - develops a strong desire to go back to his roots, back to nature? Did I find myself on that journey? Rather not. But I found some beautiful moments in the green, out in the woods, out in the fields, under the moon and in the night, moments, which I want to share with you. And there is one thing I learned and now it can be told, I am and have always been a ‘Fantast’.'

The first single 'In The Night' features the vocals of Ben Duffy, which paired with Claptone’s insistent and upbeat production, makes for an exquisitely executed electronic pop gem. It marks an engaging opening snapshot for what will be a milestone in his already glittering career.

'When would I return if not in the night? What would our love look like, if not with you letting me go? Which song will you be humming when thunder and lightning are coming?'

We caught a glimpse of his ambition to produce a body of work in Claptone’s debut artist album 'Charmer' which has scored over 60million streams and counting, but it’s in 'Fantast' that Claptone really delves deeper into the art of songwriting. 

2018 will see another intense year of touring as a DJ with Claptone taking his immersive 'The Masquerade' event experience further, having built momentum over the last 18 months hosting events and stages in Los Angeles, Berlin, Paris, Melbourne, Barcelona and New York and at festivals like Tomorrowland, Melt Festival, Elrow at Amnesia Ibiza, Green Valley in Brazil.

3 QUESTIONS to PAJI:

Q: Talking about your mix: From “Barbers Adagio For Strings” to electronic beats from the past 15 years. How did you meet the bass?

A: My musical roots lie in classical music because i got classically trained and was also always interested in oriental instruments and folklore due to my upbringing. I later discovered my love for electronic music / deep beats and quickly realised that there are actually similarities between classical music and electronic music. Both genres really take their time and put their listeners on a journey. I just put 2 and 2 together and started combining the elements things that i loved. 

Q: Playing the violin is an outstanding feature in your live-performances. How did you got in touch with the instrument once and what does it still mean to you?

A: I got introduced to the instrument as a young kid. A close family friend would always play the violin on family get togethers. I was amazed by the sounds and would always ask him tons of questions about it. My father caught on to the interest and soon I had my own Violin along with lessons. And to this day I just never got tired of it, I honestly get restless if I don’t get to play for more than a few days.

Q: We heard there is a new album coming soon? Tell us more

A: I’m putting all my focus on finishing my very first LP, to be released early this year. I got to collaborate with amazing talent and am just filled with excitement in anticipation of sharing new music. It’s gonna have a lot of new elements that people might not expect from me but for sure It has that typical Paji imprint that has been with me over the past 5 years.

A pure passion of sharing music drove Aaron Avram AKA. Av Ram into the DJ booth.
Since his first weekly gig at Sip Lounge in Vancouver BC, he has earned the honour of playing and holding residency at most of the local clubs and lounges in in his hometown - Including Killjoy, Aura, Cabana, Bar None, Encore, Afterlife and Gorg-o-mish After hours. With a
focus on engaging the dance floor with an empathetic and an intuitive selection of contemporary and familiar electronica, he has inspired the collective on journeys featuring deep, techy, shoulder-bouncing, two-stepping and obscure multi genre electronica. 

Recent international gigs include Onca in Panama City, Island Life Music festival, Yellow Bar in Thailand, Arribas Bar in Nicaragua and The Loose Moose in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. 

You can find him as a resident DJ at Garfinkles in Whistler BC or playing the local festival/ special event circuit. Recently, he has also been passionately operating a monthly Pop-up event series called ‘LOFT’ which is a locally unique platform connecting the arts and music communities with people who want more from their lives at night.

Aaron is a cultivator in the nightlife scene in Vancouver. As founder of Tree House and LOFT he has been showcasing local Djs and dancers contributing to the local house music scene. Look forward to his energy and connection to the dance floor or beach during live sets and keep an eye out for his recorded mixes. An innate drive for sharing music and building experiences accompanied by impeccable timing will not let you of your feet.
