A cover from the mid-80s, I've wanted to do this song for so long, it's not even funny! I have the original 45 still. With sequencing by Nelson Guimaraes, the original male vocal with guitar solos, is now transformed into my special signature arrangement with my tenor sax supplying the riffs and middle 8 solo, and lead vocal plus 6 harmony backing vocals by  me :-) too! So much fun, I'll update this when the track comes out and I have a pre-save and buy link to share!

More than a title for the song, "Breaking Away" aptly describes Ava Lemert's new direction for her music making. In this song, she flexes her vocal, and production chops, "Breaking Away" from the misconception that she is simply a "jazz saxophonist." Ava also recorded, mixed, and mastered the song herself in her Citrus Heights studio, My Blue Heaven.
"Breaking Away" is a rather obscure song from 1981 by the band, Balance. Ava's version of the energetic, 80s rocker, has a bit faster tempo, great for exercising to, and six vocal harmonies, all sung by Ava herself! This is a new arrangement of a dusty gem from the days of leg warmers, and Miami Vice. It's both nostalgic, and refreshing with the "realness" of the soaring, powerful vocals by Ava Lemert

"Winter Song" at times sounds like an instrumental that might have been made by #BrianFerry or #RoxyMusic with it's swirling, sultry harmonizing saxophone lines that phase in, around, and above each other. It's as if they are lovers in a dance, very dream-like, with an intoxicating, driving tom-drum beat behind them. Chill, but also, intensely passionate.

This original came together so fast, that I wrote the lyrics down AFTER I cut the first "test" lead vocal! I love it when something comes together in a bolt of lightning. I did very little to change it, I find, usually, in creating songs, artwork, or other "passion" projects, that reworking tends to wreck the energy of the product. Not sure how to really word what I'm thinking, I hope you catch my meaning. Anyway, I think this is more a "Funk Rock" than "R&B/Soul" would you agree? Categorizing is always the TOUGHEST part of releasing music to me, and it doesn't seem to get any easier, LOL! I hope you like it! Made with love, Ava :-)
