A cover from the mid-80s, I've wanted to do this song for so long, it's not even funny! I have the original 45 still. With sequencing by Nelson Guimaraes, the original male vocal with guitar solos, is now transformed into my special signature arrangement with my tenor sax supplying the riffs and middle 8 solo, and lead vocal plus 6 harmony backing vocals by  me :-) too! So much fun, I'll update this when the track comes out and I have a pre-save and buy link to share!

More than a title for the song, "Breaking Away" aptly describes Ava Lemert's new direction for her music making. In this song, she flexes her vocal, and production chops, "Breaking Away" from the misconception that she is simply a "jazz saxophonist." Ava also recorded, mixed, and mastered the song herself in her Citrus Heights studio, My Blue Heaven.
"Breaking Away" is a rather obscure song from 1981 by the band, Balance. Ava's version of the energetic, 80s rocker, has a bit faster tempo, great for exercising to, and six vocal harmonies, all sung by Ava herself! This is a new arrangement of a dusty gem from the days of leg warmers, and Miami Vice. It's both nostalgic, and refreshing with the "realness" of the soaring, powerful vocals by Ava Lemert

I believe in it, the words, the universal need and gravity of the meaning, I hope with my voice and my saxophone expressing the song, that you feel how much this means to me. I have wanted to try for many years, afraid of not being able to do this immortal song of hope well-enough to present to the world. I'm coming closer to my own Spirituality, in accepting what I cannot change, and letting God do the heavy lifting in my career and my life. I performed this at a Women's Spiritual retreat and it was the most amazing experience I've had so far. I want more of it. I humbly submit this effort to you. I hope you like it. <3 Ava

"Winter Song" at times sounds like an instrumental that might have been made by #BrianFerry or #RoxyMusic with it's swirling, sultry harmonizing saxophone lines that phase in, around, and above each other. It's as if they are lovers in a dance, very dream-like, with an intoxicating, driving tom-drum beat behind them. Chill, but also, intensely passionate.

I heard this song, and it moved me so much, it took me a while to do it without completely cracking. I did this because, well, I am a Motherless Child. The music really came out well, I made it with my KeyRig and the great instruments I have sampled, these are my favorite orchestral patches used in my arrangement. Yes, I am not just a singer. I make the music as often as I can because I can afford my own time :-)
So it made sense to me to group with it, my song written for my Mom, Annette and also having just lost one of my greatest influences, Etta James also to cancer just this week, I recorded a new version of "At Last" I haven't figured out artwork yet.
