More than a title for the song, "Breaking Away" aptly describes Ava Lemert's new direction for her music making. In this song, she flexes her vocal, and production chops, "Breaking Away" from the misconception that she is simply a "jazz saxophonist." Ava also recorded, mixed, and mastered the song herself in her Citrus Heights studio, My Blue Heaven.
"Breaking Away" is a rather obscure song from 1981 by the band, Balance. Ava's version of the energetic, 80s rocker, has a bit faster tempo, great for exercising to, and six vocal harmonies, all sung by Ava herself! This is a new arrangement of a dusty gem from the days of leg warmers, and Miami Vice. It's both nostalgic, and refreshing with the "realness" of the soaring, powerful vocals by Ava Lemert

"Winter Song" at times sounds like an instrumental that might have been made by #BrianFerry or #RoxyMusic with it's swirling, sultry harmonizing saxophone lines that phase in, around, and above each other. It's as if they are lovers in a dance, very dream-like, with an intoxicating, driving tom-drum beat behind them. Chill, but also, intensely passionate.

"Trunk o' Funk" - the name tells the story. This is a jam gone WILD! It's got improvised vocals about getting up to get down. Some crazy sax riffs, and a groove that will probably get you in trouble. The good kind (wink).

"Ava's Groove" - breezy, happy, and oh so laid back FUNKY. I'm playing all instruments here, the lead is a greasy-good Hammond B-3 organ, sweet little celestina, pizzicato playful flits of strings, it's got a day at the beach, or top-down sunshine cruise vibe. Try it, I bet you'll be tapping the steering wheel and grinning ear to ear behind it!

Ava Lemert is a multiple award-winning entertainer, international recording artist, and is also a prolific recognized arranger, producer and composer of hundreds of pieces in many styles from sweeping cinematic themes to historic and exotic world music.
