Dublin born & based Long Island Sound (Rob Roche & Tim Nolan) have been honing their craft since the DJ/Producer duo’s inception in 2015. Cutting their teeth in Berlin, the pair broke through over 2019 following a release on Bobby Analog’s Body Fusion and their ‘Initial Ascent’ EP on their Signs Of Space imprint. 

Garnering support from Midland and Bicep, they were then invited to contribute to the ‘Feel My Bicep’ mix series. Following the success of their second EP on SOS, ‘Broken Signals’, LIS were invited to contribute to DJ Mag’s Fresh Kicks series and featured on Maribou State’s ‘Fabric Presents’ compilation. 

Picking up serious momentum over 2019, the duo booked a string of gigs and festivals across Europe, the UK and US, including AVA Festival and Griessmuehle, before coming full circle for their first Boiler Room in their hometown in February 2020. With their back catalogue gaining support from industry heavyweights including Anja Schneider, Cinthie, Tijana T, Hammer and Skatebard, LIS dropped ‘First Contact EP’ on Hammer’s Remmah imprint in January 2022, which received a glistening review from Resident Advisor. 

We recently caught up with Rob and Tim as they get ready for the release of their highly anticipated debut album titled “Lost Connection!” We spoke with them about their origisn, growing up in Dublin, the gear they collect, plus much more. On his fourth EP, Tim Crombie aka A Psychic Yes invites us to follow him off the beaten track – or dancefloor. With their mix of leftfield grooves, intuitive instrumentation and dreamlike field recordings, these cuts apply club principles to the soundscape of a distant yet familiar world. A bus radio clamours in a terminus in South India. Industrious algorithms go about their daily routines. The sun breaks through a dense canopy, illuminating the damp undergrowth and the psychedelic critters that call it home. Close your eyes and let your mind and feet lead you.

PREMIERE: A Psychic Yes - Blood Moon [Nummer Music]

Seb Wildblood invites SOS Music co-founder Maddy Maia to mark her debut solo EP on All My Thoughts. An introspective record for the dance floor, fuelled by her journey through a challenging music industry. 

The London born / LA based DJ/producer, radio host, label owner, event curator and A&R has dedicated a decade to nourishing artists with a focus on female and gender minorities, elevating new talent through her mostly female DJ sets and radio shows on Worldwide FM & DUBLAB, and most notably of late via the SOS Music (Sisters Of Sound) imprint and curated events series of which she co-founded with DJ Tottie in 2019. ‘With U’ is a full circle story of a dedicated tastemaker reflecting on her contribution to the community.

Sonically, title track ‘With U’ is a nod to seminal oldskool genres that Maddy grew up on, breaks, drum n bass and rave. “I love that this element is back in dance music again!”she explains. ‘Fembot Fashion’ represents the music you’d expect to hear throughout a Maddy Maia DJ set; it's seductive and fresh. The EP doesn’t just represent Maddy’s sonic palette though, it’s a breakthrough in confidence and culmination of charged emotions. 

Maddy Maia - “After being behind the scenes for so long working in A&R - which has been a difficult journey at times - I’m finally feeling confident enough to put my own music out there . It was a very different landscape when I started my career in music. I was so scared of producing, thinking I needed loads of gear I couldn’t afford and spent a long time with imposter syndrome intimidated by the scene. All reinforced by the environment around me being fairly toxic in my early days working in music, a reason clearly driving my work with SOS Music. A lot of emotion has come out in these tracks. They’re my love letters to the dancefloor (dancing has always been intense therapy and probably one of the reasons I was drawn to club culture in the first place) but also the soundtrack to a charged snapshot in history. I made Fembot Fashion when we got the Roe vs. Wade news in the USA and at that moment all our work on championing diversity with SOS Music and throughout my time in the industry just suddenly felt pointless. I was so angry, and happened to have a weekend to myself so I sat in my little studio in East LA and channeled some of that fierce energy I was feeling into this track.

Now one of dance music’s most respected DJs, Avalon Emerson first made a name for herself in the storied warehouse scene of her birthplace, San Francisco, before relocating to Berlin in 2013. Over a decade of performances at the famed Berghain led to appearances at numerous festivals around the world which all cemented Emerson, and her evocative, genre- and decade-spanning sets, as perennially in demand. 

In 2020, she released her first full-length collection: a contribution to the longrunning DJ-Kicks series (which Resident Advisor described as “The sound of a well-honed DJ at the top of her game.”), nestled alongside a steady stream of remix releases for the likes of Four Tet, Slowdive, Robyn and more.

Next up was 2023’s Avalon Emerson & The Charm, an instant classic which saw Emerson exploring her singing voice and more traditional songwriting outside of the boundaries of her dance music work.  Created after a move to New York, the resulting & The Charm album was released to critical acclaim, landing on numerous critics’ best-of-the-year lists.

The stage is now set, then, for her to carve out a wholly unique path, and with the help of new label home and indie giant, Dead Oceans, Emerson is poised to connect her various musical endeavors to create an untouchably rich output of material. First up is Perpetual Emotion Machine, consisting of songs created for her DJ sets, delivered via a living, evolving project and announced ahead of her worldwide tour.
