Discability explores different sounds that make Phlossie's 'brain itch'. The concept of a brain itch is widely used within the neurodivergent community as something that causes immense happiness, pleasure and excitement through the brain and body that basically makes you feel good! 

'This is what this mix represents for me as an autistic person, all the deep synth, bass and 'gloopy' sounds really click in my head and allows me to get absolutely absorbed in the hour of creating and listening to this show'

'The mix is a journey through some ambient, ambient trance n ethereal tracks that I'm loving right now. I love playing clubby sets but it feels good to slow it down n reverb it out every so often. Maracuya provides us with this month's Discability show.  Maracuya has written a few words below to accompany the mix.

'This mix is both a sonic demonstration of my AuDHD, and an insight into how I cope with EDS, chronic pain and burnout.

When I was first diagnosed with EDS, I was overworking myself with intense workouts because I thought that's what was good for my body. I've since learnt that those kinds of workouts can exacerbate my joint pain, so I replaced them with a daily dancing and somatics session instead, inspired by the teachings of @mimhq.co.uk . This mix is full of percussion-heavy music, because that's what I always dance to during those sessions. It helps me get into a good rhythm and shake out the stress.

Many times I've been described as "unexpected" - my music taste doesn't quite match up with my looks, and I seem shy initially, but when speaking about certain interests, I have no issues. This is just due to my "spiky profile" and the intersection of my autism and ADHD - it's not necessarily a bad thing. Similarly, this mix seems quite normal to begin with, but quickly builds up, and you quite never know what's coming round the corner.

How does your disability/neurodivergence help you when DJing or creating, and what do you like about it?:
My autism and ADHD help me think outside the box. I never follow trends, in life and within electronic music - I'll never start playing a new genre just because it's popular. I also take risks with my mixes. Sometimes there will be a clang here and there, but for me it's worth the experimentation, because it'll often sound amazing.'

We're very pleased to welcome Discability back into the fold with Myoozli taking the reins this month. Myoozli has provided some words to accompany the mix:

'Through the high energy and heaviness of this 140-170 mix, I wanted to represent how powerful music makes me feel, and the Manchester club scene’s way of making me feel unstoppable. Something I’m sure other chronically ill people in the music scene can relate to is the imposter syndrome. I’m often wondering if people are thinking “she can’t really be that ill. Look how hard she goes”, and sometimes I catch myself thinking the same. But honestly I think I must have just been engineered that way 🤖 

I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy a month before my 17th birthday, and ended up having an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) inserted into my chest. For me, this illness - even almost 10 years later - has manifested in irregular heartbeats, chest pain, and a whole lot of fatigue. Despite this, music and nightlife are my one true love. Seeing people’s faces when I’m out covered in sweat on the dancefloor, and they notice my ICD scar on my chest, never gets old.

It’s hard to describe just how much mental trauma intertwines with physical illness, but music has always been a saving grace for me. Creating sets and performing is what provides me with a form of immersion that steers away from harmful dissociation, and I wanted to reflect in this mix the feeling I get behind the decks: exhilaration, euphoria, and the freedom to go hard despite my own body’s limits.

To round off the month we welcome GINI - After seeing GINI play at Nowadaze 2025 a few months back we were very keen to hear more. 

‘This mix is basically a bit of everything I’ve been loving recently. A lot of the tracks are stuff I’ve pinched from sets this summer at festivals and what not, so feeling so grateful for the experiences, the music and for dancing. 

The mix starts off pretty easy and with some rinsed and repeated numbers, getting heavier as it goes- there’s a few random ones in there as well just to make sure you’re still listening. 

Some off my favourite ID’s in there are frequency Groove (Marina Potion Club), space for crap (acidulant), Dancetrax 2.1 (neutron) and Willy’s Breakbeat (NewTone). Think these go to show I love anything with a heavy bass and some cheeky highs and vocals.

Ezra - ‘A compilation of my favourite dubby deep and tribal tech house tracks, starting off with the kind of stuff I find myself gravitating towards when mixing by myself at home that I wouldn't necessarily get to play out whilst getting more into the party fodder towards the end. Earthy tones all round.’
