El Lago De Mi Alma

Field recording of an ayahuasca ceremony in the Amazon of Peru, featuring three Shipibo shamans, Esteban, his partner Olinda and in the end Matilda, as well some dramatic sound from ceremony participants. The track is lasting 18 minutes and is part of larger recording done for purposes of documentary movie shot in alternative camp in the jungle, run by medicinal collective Psychonauta. 

The icaro slowly develops, first Esteban is creating stability to the visions with his melodic and rhythmic chanting, and in later part is joined by Olinda with high pitched, child like joyful singing. Characteristic quality of Shipibo work during ayahuasca session is seemingly chaotic weaving of different songs into intricate patterns that can be a bit overwhelming for newcomers, but is very effective way of practicing mindfullness and attention, a sort of mental yoga. In the midst of ayahuasca trip, where things can be confusing, complex layers of shamanic songs are like ropes on which one can find support, and avoid getting lost, while at the same time they fullfill roles of cleansing, straightening of energies and more. In life challenges we face are never easy, so same way in the ceremony, best to practice in deep waters rather than be stuck with the easy feel good popular medicine songs. This is how we grow.
