the opening chords are semi-inspired by a really old track of mine, "Wisdom." I've wanted to do something with it for a while now, so i decided to turn it into a lofi track. the rest of it is pretty standard stuff, with some funky grooves in the percussion of course :)

longing to be somebody else

Here is my submission for the 2022 NGADM - Round 1.

I don't know how much more LoFi i'm gonna make for this summer EP but i've been having a total blast with it and it's been a great way to work on my mixing/mastering skills, and also just the music process in general. I tried to get a little creative with the instrument choice on this one, I really like the vibe of the clarinets (especially with the vinyl filter) and I think it works pretty well. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy and good luck to everyone else in the running!

New And Old

This one was a lot of fun! I started by recording myself dropping some random things on the concrete outside my apartment (an aluminum can, a piece of metal, a drumstick, and a glass jar). I sampled those sounds as well as some lofi percussion, a hi-hat loop, and a lofi groove loop. I also made a couple of the synths out of the concrete sounds I recorded. the bass and the guitar are FLEX presets, but all the other melodic stuff is from the concrete samples. The sampled audio of talking is from some tik tok videos about concrete that i found.

The D.O.C.S. Smoke Break Car (from "Locosizic")

Happy autumn everyone! Here's some spooky ambience to get ready for halloween festivities :)

Most of the sounds in this were recorded by me, including the drone and the chords played live on an electric piano, as well as the arpeggio sound which is from blowing on a bottle. Most of the static was recorded by me as well, with a few noise samples taken from various lofi sample packs and vinyl effect sounds.

You Won't Even Remember You're Dying

This is a very ambient and haunting wintery soundscape that drifts between electronic and orchestral elements. I used a lot of my usual tricks here, as well as my favorite ambient effect so far: a recording of me and some friends bowing a crotale on a timpani as the pedal moves up and down, fed through an automated bitcrusher/reverb plugin (miniverb).

In the title, "midding" comes from the dictionary of obscure sorrows, "feeling the tranquil pleasure of being near a gathering but not quite in it—hovering on the perimeter of a campfire, chatting outside a party while others dance inside, resting your head in the backseat of a car listening to your friends chatting up front—feeling blissfully invisible yet still fully included, safe in the knowledge that everyone is together and everyone is okay, with all the thrill of being there without the burden of having to be." The term originates from "midden", a middle english term for a trash heap outside of a dwelling. A strait is typically a small passage of water connecting two larger seas, although in this context I was going for a more frozen depiction of that.

I imagine standing at the center of a frozen strait might feel like standing at the center of a giant checkerboard of land and sea, near these large structures but not quite ﻿﻿in them. ﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿﻿

This project was made for the Chips Compo "Audio Secret Santa" 2024, for "mos" or , who requested "orchestral and electronic, ethereal and evocative." Audio Secret Santa (or ASS) is a yearly event held every December where participants submit requests which are then sent to their secret santa, who is tasked with creating an audio that fits the request. It's an incredibly fun, welcoming, and warm community and each year is a blast. Chips compo also hosts regular events throughout the year where users all submit songs based on the same theme and vote on each others submissions to determine a winner. The Midding Strait

Coming back home after being away for so long and having become a different person in that time, it's such a strange feeling. Every day I mourn the loss of my old life, both the one away from home and the one from how things were different before i ever left. I feel so much nostalgia for those days, and yet here I stand right in the same place.

Temporal Echoes

(Description written March 21st 2025)

It starts with a single drop of water, clinging to an icicle before it loses its grip and plumets downward. As it gets warmer and more drops fall like rain under clear skies it quickly becomes a torrential downpour. Waves of snowmelt wash down from the tops of the mountains into lakes and reservoirs, gifting us the next season's water, and revealing the green new growth underneath. Spring has never been my favorite season (I like the cold weather best), but it has been steadily growing on me as I get older. It's a time of new beginnings and dreams of how we've changed and how we will change, and it's a breath of fresh air after the dull and dreary winter months.

I'm getting ready to move and it seems a fitting time, given all the change that comes with uprooting yourself and settling somewhere new. Often it feels incredibly scary and overwhelming, but other times I can barely contain my excitement. All of these are ideas I tried to incorporate while making this.
