With her Turkish girlfriend Derya and her Californian mother Jane, Mia must slowly piece together the details of her past to find out what happened. Mona Mansour’s beautifully human and surprisingly humorous play asks what it would mean for our souls—personally and as a nation—if we were to truly see the impact of our actions.

From my 3-D-audio opera re-imagining of the 1,001 Nights, INSHALLAH/MASHALLAH, which was produced by Target Margin Theater in 2018, and remains an artistic highlight for me. INSHALLAH/MASHALLAH explores the powers and problems of myth in cultural narrative via sound, song, and sensory manipulation. This particular piece is the score to Sindbad’s 7th Journey, which takes place later in the show. In my version, he is traveling through strange alternate universes - an orchestral, celestial quest, scored for strings, woodwinds, guitar, piano, and electronics. Imagine twinkling lights overhead as the music surrounds you....
