We're back. This time crawling back into the dark and cavernous (but welcoming) caves of dubstep.

To kick off our first bit of 140 this year, we're drafting in someone new to the Mercurial ranks. Off the back of some killer releases in 2020, we're super gassed to welcome KALEE to the Murky Crew.

The A side, 'Prodromal', is an intensely gritty experience. Industrial, alien and warped; dubstep that really pushes into the experimental realms. To be honest, this tune scared us a little bit, and we love it.

The B side, entitled 'Retrieval', completely turns the release on its head, comprised of twinkling, arpeggiated keys and skipping percussion, while still maintaining an aggressive, bass-driven rawness.

We really hope you like being (just a little bit) terrified.

“Transcendence” is the next chapter of the collaborative musical explorations of electronic producer Ivan Shopov and jazz pianist and composer Dimitar Bodurov. Consisting of six long-form and deeply immersive pieces, inhabiting the realms of neoclassical music, ambient, experimental jazz, and downtempo electronica, the sequel to 2020's "Coalescence" is a daring, playful, and rhythmic musical offering. The flame of this collaboration was seemingly sparked by the spontaneity and energy of free improvisation but of precision and musical mastership as well. “Transcendence” is highly atmospheric but always remains focused and direct. Carrying the traits of contemporary composition and advanced sound design, it's a challenging but captivating and intriguing listen. Most importantly, Shopov & Bodurov manage to paint a coherent musical landscape. Their signature approaches and styles remain recognizable but are also heavily intertwined thus creating something of their own.

The Rabbit, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, symbolizes longevity, peace, and most suitable for the Unchained trajectory, creativity.  

Each year we set out to collate a mélange of ambiguous club-ready electronic whilst doing our part to cross that apparent divide between drum ‘n’ bass, jungle, footwork, grime and other members of the extended bass family.

We haven’t always been wed to the massive banger alone, but we have to admit, we always will be obsessed. We don’t consider ourselves possessed by sonic slabs that are looped beyond recognition, but we hold them in high regard just the same. 

So with that in mind, curating the Year of the Rabbit compilation took some time this year.

The Year Of The Rabbit showcases artists both emerging and established from China, Russia, England, Holland, and the United States. Be it wonky, divergent, mutant, deep, or simply in the vein of the pure epic club banger, every producer has something remarkable and distinctive going on.

We introduce and welcome back our 2023 Year of the Rabbit artist crew: Subp Yao, Radiax, Lakeway, Danky, Neve, Harka, Doctor Jeep, Leo Cap, Kray, Trophy, Airstrike, Throe, Pllfry and Dynamic Stab.
