’Numb’ partners Genix with BBC Radio 1 supported singer-songwriter Natalie McCool, also known as LYCA. The Liverpool based multi-instrumentalist received acclaim for her 2016 album ’The Great Unknown’, championed by the likes of Q, The Sunday Times, Huw Stephens and Alice Levine.

The first single taken from ‘199X’, ‘Numb’ with LYCA is out now. ‘199X’ will be released on the 10th of September and is available for both vinyl and digital pre-order now on the Anjuna Music Store.

A love letter to rave culture, ‘199X’ is the debut artist album from Anjunabeats stalwart Damion ‘Damo’ Houchen, also known as Genix.

The LP is a departure from the sound Genix is best known for. Through the late 2000’s and 2010’s, Genix was well known for his textured, melodic take on trance. He caught the ear of Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk, securing releases on both Armada and Vandit. Genix arrived on Anjunabeats in 2010 and immediately became a mainstay in Above & Beyond’s sets with tracks like ‘Aura’, ‘Destinations’ and ‘Black Water’ (the latter written with regular touring partner Sunny Lax).

From those origins, Genix has blossomed into a mainstay in the trance scene. As his stature grew, so did his approach to his music:

“There have been so many influences [on my sound]; DJs, producers, events and the thousands of records I’ve bought over the years. I don’t try to be any one genre, some people think I produce less trance sometimes, but if you have followed my career from the start it’s always had tech influences. I think any producer should stick to the sounds they love, if it makes me jump out of my seat when I’m making it, then that’s all that really matters. 

My music is a representation of my personal taste, it’s my expression and my passion being put into sound. It really is an art and I just try to be myself, not a genre, not a certain BPM, just Genix.” - Genix

His Anjunabeats Worldwide 09 mix championed these ideas. It was an iTunes #1 dance album that took us from slow burning progressive to fiery techno, landing somewhere between a Global Underground mix and a classic Gatecrasher compilation.

2020’s ‘The Light’ was a bullish electro-edged anthem alongside label mate Grum and hit number one on Beatport’s Melodic Techno chart. DJ support from Etienne De Crecy and Hi-Lo (Oliver Heldens) followed. 

A polished DJ, Genix has performed around the world; festival stages at Creamfields (UK), Tomorrowland, EDC, ABGT250 and 350, to more intimate club affairs; Ministry Of Sound, The Hollywood Palladium, Warehouse Project. 

These shows don’t live up to the heights of playing 5,597 metres above sea level though, where in April 2019 Genix set the Guinness world record for the highest land DJ set, hosting a party at Everest Base Camp.

GRAMMY-nominated duo Fatum collaborate with Mars Atlas on ‘Deserve It’, out now.

Fatum have been label regulars since ‘Mandala’ in 2015. Some of their label hits include, ‘Chocolate’, a cover of Tangerine Dream’s 'Love On A Real Train’, and super collaboration ‘All In’ with Genix, Jaytech & Judah. They’re also prolific remixers, with reworks of Above & Beyond, 3LAU, Gabriel & Dresden, BT & Matt Fax and more under their belt.

Over the past year, Fatum embraced their digital community. They stream regularly on Twitch, and host regular hangouts with fans in their Discord server. Their ‘Stream Starting Soon EP’, released on Anjunabeats in May 2021, was dedicated to their passionate online following.

In the words of Above & Beyond: “Fatum make tracks that demand a big stage”. ‘Deserve It’ was debuted in that style, at A&B’s Group Therapy 450 celebrations in London. The track is a collaboration with vocalist and producer Mars Atlas, aka one half of electronic pop duo Forts.

The song was written in a matter of a few minutes one night, in a burst of overwhelming vulnerability at the idea of one day losing my parents. You can actually hear me crying in my first take. The song was written, but I kind of buried it - it felt a little too personal. A while later though, when I heard Fatum's hauntingly beautiful piano beds, I was taken back to that same emotional space and knew that song should belong there. The guys built a world around it that brought the song to life. This is my debut release as Mars Atlas and I couldn't be more excited for the future and to work with Fatum again. Pretty Pink first appeared on the label in 2020 with her progressive twist on Gabriel & Dresden’s ‘Remember’. Featuring three records that have soundtracked Above & Beyond milestone Group Therapy celebrations over the decade, Jono, Paavo and Tony close 2019 with the ‘Out Of Time’ EP. 

A sought after fan favourite, debuted during ABGT100 live from Madison Square Garden, ‘Out Of Time’ was the final track finished for 2015’s ‘We Are All We Need’. While the club rework has percolated among A&B mixes over the last 5 years, the remastered extended mix and edit are now available for the first time.

Another record that has evolved throughout its life time, ‘Is It Love?’ first aired during ABGT200 in Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome as the instrumental ‘1001'. With Jono himself providing a 80’s indie-electronica vocal for the track's appearance on ‘Common Ground’, the ‘Is It Love?’ club mix has become a euphoric moment in the trio's sets since 2017.
