Nach mehr als acht Jahren ist es nun endlich so weit: Daniel Nitsch und Andreas Henneberg alias The Glitz veröffentlichen ihr erstes gemeinsames Album am 20. März 2015 auf ihrem eigenen Label – Voltage Musique Records. Mit insgesamt 14 Titeln zeigen die beiden Musiker, was in den letzten zwei Jahren der gemeinsamen Studioarbeit entstanden ist. Wir sprachen mit ihnen über den Longplayer, wieso man sich für ein Album bereit fühlen muss und dass auch die Hochschule für Musik- und Theater in Rostock eine Rolle beim Produzieren von “No Drama” spielte.

October 13th 2017 sees the esteemed German Techno DJ/producer Oliver Huntemann find himself on the cusp of yet a new era in his career with the release of his fifth album entitled, ‘Propaganda’.

'Propaganda' is Huntemann’s fifth long-player, and like each of its predecessors, it shows a different side to one of the most consistently rewarding names in Techno. Huntemann explains, “The sound of Propaganda is more grown up, I’ve left the times of reducing to the max behind to create a certain atmosphere throughout the whole album. Of course most tracks work well on the dancefloor but the task was also to make them as interesting as possible for listening sessions - simply to reach another level.”

Released on his own Senso Sounds label, the album exudes the level of assurance that perhaps only comes with being so active in curating and developing a label that has stood out from the masses since its inception in 2014.

'Propaganda' opens with 'Taktik', and the mood is quickly established through crisp motorik drum programming and deep, pulsing bass lines. 'Poltergeist' - the 2nd cut, continues this aesthetic - a deep and spacious groover.

Clocking in at over 1 hour 15 minutes, the 12-tracker allows a lot of space for itself, each tracking having the time it needs to develop and unfold. 'Egoist' ramps up the feel somewhat with intricate melodies and effects, before breaking down into something that will destroy many dance floors. Yet the beauty of the album format is that it allows for various mood changes, and 'Malaria' brings us something of a shift into a more freaked out and edgy vibe, while 'Anonym' highlights Huntemann’s mastery of atmosphere, serving as an ambient / downbeat interlude. 'Rotlicht' is perhaps a standout for fans of Huntemann’s epic DJ sets, exhibiting all the control and release dynamic that make him such an engaging performer. It’s also clearly a key cornerstone for the entire album.

Next up is 'Absurd', followed by 'Manipulation' - both reference the exquisite sound design Huntemann instils into his precision-built tracks, while remaining primed for club use at all times. 'Momentum' switches up the tempo, perhaps influenced by more experimental, no wave and krautrock sources - and serving as punctuation before the album's final triptych. 'Vertigo' sees shimmering arpeggiated synths skip across a solid rhythm track, while 'Doppelgänger' builds a delicious tension through constant pads and pulsing, blocky bass tones. 'Trick17' ultimately rounds off 'Propaganda', - an expanse of emotionally charged techno with Huntemann’s signature feel woven into its fabric.

It’s hard to believe @Senso-Sounds has only been around for five years, such is the frequency and quality of their release schedule. Now with over 50 transmissions under the belt, Oliver Huntemann’s home for precision techno has set a high bar for the rest of the pack. Fittingly, the label has chosen to celebrate the 5 year milestone with a series of events around Europe, and this stellar compilation from some of the key artists around the label. 5Y Senso Sounds contains 10 new, exclusive tracks, and provides the perfect calling card for the label’s ethos.

Kicking things off is label boss Oliver Huntemann with 'Concord' - a typically taught, growling slice of dancefloor gear. The urgent-yet-funky percussion and modulated chord stabs provide the drama, a Huntemann signature that sets the tone for the rest of the compilation. Longtime Senso collaborator André Winter also brings the heat - his 'Carte Noir' is hard as nails, featuring dystopian detuned synth lines and diamond-hard beats. Carlo Ruetz has also been a regular on the label, unleashing a string of tremendous techno heaters - matched here by his contribution 'Thunder.' @shaded_official (aka Skyler Taugher) also brings his A-game, with a trippy, lean burner intriguingly titled 'I Got Haters'. Next up is one of Russia’s top producers - Maksim Dark - another jewel in the crown of Senso. His 'Mega Pulse' is a driving, powerful track with a tripped out slo-mo vocal and a churning acidic, rave synth.
The second half of the album maintains the intensity and quality. Hidden Empire contribute 'Time Goes By', a chugging, psychedelic groover with plenty of attitude. The Brazilian Alex Stein also goes for the jugular with 'Turmoil' - a forthright banger with layers of ravey weirdness to mess with the heads of the dancefloor faithful.
Hamburg based DJ and producer Hatzler goes in even harder - 'Almandin' being a tense, pressurised techno weapon. Distale has dropped a few excellent releases on Senso previously, and his 'Hooka' doesn’t disappoint either - lazer sharp beats underlie layers of melodic and rhythmic washes.
Last but by no means least, Aitor Ronda from Barcelona, (a second spiritual home for Senso), provides one of the many highlights on the release. His 'Hunter Moon' is both subtle and devastating in equal measures - a fitting testament to the Senso sound.
