From the depths of the Glasgow underground comes the as yet unidentified artist, MONK. Born in the shadows, MONK has decided to let his music be the message. Displaying phenomenal production skill, this debut release from the anonymous producer is drenched in excellence. The pure, authentic and anthemic sounds of quintessential synths merged with unmistakable 808 driven beats results in modern classics, cut from on electro and breaks from this shadowy Glasgow native.

Title track Connection Lost leans on that classic Drexciyan sound as tweeked out, syncopated elements pepper the synthetic landscape created by huge, sweeping pads. Under Pressure brings a more breaks tinted edge and hits hard with huge 808 kicks and a proper funked up beat as a snarling bassline takes hold and detuned pads create a supernatural vibe. Table For One continues the with a more psychedelic feel with MONK’s use of ethereal pads across searing bass and razor sharp, direct percussion delivering the attitude. Core closes out this massive release on a deeper tip but still packs a punch. MONK’s use of tension in his sounds creates a more laid back feel with this track but deftly manoeuvres in an aggressive sensibility with a low slung baseline and yet more keenly honed percussive strikes.

Glasgow based Avoidant Records return with another finely tuned VA, dedicated to some of Electro’s freshest talent. This latest releases spans 6 tracks of pure electronic funk thats bleeds into darker, club orientated music. 

Coming out of left field, Belgian producer Helsmoortel’s ‘Raided’ opens the compilation with a slice of bass driven funk. Atix from France is up next with a decidedly rapid helping of raw and direct electro-funked beats on ‘White Shadow’. Straight from the Russian mega mind is the mechanised sound of Corvad & Henry Kane’s ‘Robot Music’. The dark and twisted ‘Double Standard’ from Moscow’s Igor Filippov adds yet more propulsion to the VA and closing out proceedings is Australian 88756 with his retro sounding ‘Iterate And Obliterate’.

South London based Electro act, Steven Allman, returns to Avoidant for his debut release with the label, the Abductors EP. Having cut his teeth on the London electro scene with his event Scan (run in conjunction with Sync 24) he recently appeared on the acclaimed Dark Planet VA back in 2021. With his first full release on Avoidant, Allman brings his unique take on Electro with a poised and balanced 4 tracker.

Title track track Abuctors is a fast paced and sci fi leaning affair complete with twisted vocals and mind bending synth work. Jam The Freq continues the attitude but brings a more ominous and darker sound and high definition drums patterns burst across a flurry of buzzing bass. Pushing roper Electro Funk is Senses that bounces through and showcases Allman’s classy sound design. Master Future closes out the EP with deep rooted 808 drum work, extra terrestrial computer controlled hooks and synth work and unique retrograde vocals.

Belgium’s Helsmoortel makes a welcome return to Avoidant with his brand new release, the Belgica EP. With previous tracks featuring on the Distortion Strategy & Date Planet VAs, the up and coming producer steps out on his own for his first full EP on the label. 

The raw power of RTT opens the EP as razor sharp synths buzz across an electrified percussive workout. Etiz warps reality around it with twisting, funked out synths fizzling over a straight up, robotic beat. The darker, malevolent tones of Engie bring an air of foreboding with deep, sweeping pads transporting you to otherworldly landscapes. Motions closes out the EP on a more retro tip whilst retaining Helsmoortel’s unique and expertly crafted sound design as snapping snares drive across a sea of emotive melodies, craftily chopped vocals and proper machine funk beats.

EKATA is a London based DJ/Producer + Natural Selection Resident who's productions are characterised by their dark and atmospheric soundscapes, driven by pulsating rhythms and intricate synth work.

Determined to create music that is unearthly, idiosyncratic and exuding futurism of that of a sci-fi film, she has a vision and always ensures a story is to be told in each track she produces.
She mainly sticks to the dark and eerie side of Electro/Techno in her productions & gigs, where she will take you on a dark and twisted journey through incredibly dystopian, ominous grooves and obvious sci-fi fixations which embody her carefully picked selections. 

She has had an unstoppable start to her production journey, releasing on some of the best Electro labels out there; Burial Soil . CHP Recordings . Censor . Cybersoul . Furatena . Mars Frequency Records . Native Boundaries + Urban Connections with more releases scheduled for 2024. Her latest track "KILONOVA" will be out on Avoidant on 1st March 2024

Invisible Dynamics

Premiere: Mechanoreceptor  - Invisible Dynamics [AVD021]

Originally from Paris, SOD-90 started producing alongside his studies as a flutist at the renewed university of classical music from Berlin. Combining his knowledge from a wide range of musical backgrounds with his experience as a professional instrumentalist, he crafted an intense sound, characterised by noisy textures, scorching synth lines, with distorted drums and twisted vocals. All this added to complex and dynamic arrangements.

After only a few years since he started producing, SOD-90 has already been supported by some of the biggest names on the scene and has released on Avoidant, Bipolar Disorder records, Emotional Voyage, with more in the pipeline very soon. He intends to continue exploring creative approaches to production, aiming to evolve his style towards an increasingly powerful and unconventional aesthetic.

Warehouse Manifesto presents: AUTONOMOUS aka SLAM In The Warehouse

Already as a teenager, Nico discovered his fondness/preference for producing electronic music. In the process, he didn't commit to any particular genre. Only the German techno scene caused him to specialize in techno production. During this time, he, among other things, acted as a DJ in various clubs in his hometown. 

After some years, he had the impression that he hadn't developed further, and thus, he decided to try electro music. Nico noticed very soon that it was the right challenge for him, and so ELEKTROTECHNIK emerged in 2017. Now he was able to process his emotions and feelings, which didn't leave him unscathed due to current topics. 

Since then, ELEKTROTECHNIK has put all his energy into the production of electro music. It's definitely been worth it so far because there have been multiple releases on different labels, such as NoteRecordings, Tigerweeds, Fanzine and A.Traction, where he has already released 5 EPs.

Avoidant is a brand new label from Glasgow that debuts with a statement electro release from Berlin innovators CYRK called ‘Doppler Spectroscopy’.

Comprised of Sammy Goossens and Pascal Hetzel, this hardware loving pair are masters of live jam sessions and cross all genre lines with a real and raw sense of energy. Drawing on Detroit’s rich history, the best of electro and playing everywhere from Tokyo’s Womb to Panorama Bar and Epizode festival in Vietnam, they’ve also established their own self-titled label while getting plays from contemporary stars like DJ Stingray, Steffi and Helena Hauff. They now kick-start Avoidant, a Glaswegian imprint rooted in leftfield electro and diverse sonics.

Fantastic and futuristic first track ‘Doppler Spectroscopy’ is a searing electro cut with corrugated bass funk to spare. Molten acid, crisp hits and sustained chords flesh out the groove and make for effective, unforgettable listening. ‘Convolution’ is a busy jam with more electro stylings and freeform synth lines. It’s cinematic and sci-fi, with punchy kicks offset by gorgeous twinkling keys and really tugs at the heart despite the physicality of it all. Closing out a top trio is ‘Inverted Gravity’, a darker electro trip but still with pensive chords and an unpredictable groove.

This bold first release is a fantastic way to kick off what promises to be an interesting new label.

Avoidant unleashes another debut form the label form the mysterious Syrte. Keeping the tone on the Electro side once again, this 4 track EP cuts hard and fast.

Lifeform opens with a punishing kick, rapid beats and tweeked out synths, delivering on a real cerebral head fuck. Robot Heart has Syrte developing the twisted beats more yet keeps matters on a more emotional tip with sweeping pads breathing life into the track before a mechanical message leads into the more intense part of the track. Trinity Star System strips things back a bit more but still has Syrte on an upbeat, space age tip with the introduction of a funked up 303 to keep things interesting. Volta closes out proceedings with more twisted machine funk and superbly programmed 808 beats.

Title track Shed opens the EP with a straight up, funked out electro beat that is torn asunder by a huge and emphatic baseline that is designed to obliterate any dance floor. We Are keeps the groove flowing as a more evolving and mutating hook delivers a more ominous and foreboding track. Canyon Of Time closes the EP on a deeper, break-y tip as his use of a varied sonic palette shows his flexibility as a producer
