Second in our colab week with House x Techno label SEVEN is Carmen Electro. When we approached vinyl DJ Carmen about this special set she was excited, saying her sexuality might be "House-curious"!

Originally from Finland, Carmen Electro’s DJ sets are shaped by her diverse upbringing and deep respect for the rich legacy of dance music. While she moves seamlessly through various electronic music genres, techno often serves as the connecting thread. Playing vinyl helps her connect with her music and audience on a deep level.

Talking about this very special "Carmen Electro plays House" set, the artist told us:

"I’ve always been inspired by house music, and since the beginning of this year, I’ve really dug deeper into the genre. While preparing for this mix, I realised I’ve been collecting house records for years—sometimes without even knowing it! Some of the tracks I picked up early on, thinking they were techno, actually turned out to be house!

What I love about house is that it lets me explore the more uplifting, warm, and fun-loving side of my sound. To be honest, I’d say 90% of my house music education came from spending hours in Panorama Bar. When I started recording this mix with the SEVEN Podcast in mind, I realised how many subgenres and energy levels house music has, which made it a challenge to create a cohesive set and decide which version of house I wanted to showcase as Carmen Electro.

In the end, I went back to those hours spent dancing at Panorama Bar. It felt most natural to lean into a timeless, energetic form of house that sometimes dips into early 2000s tribal techno and tech house."

Continuing our crossover week with our friends at House x Techno label SEVEN is a mix from Café Soda resident Najeh. Influenced by late 90s and 2000s music ranging from techno to house - this artist's signature sound has evolved into a most dynamic experience. His sets are a journey of high energy parts, breaks and percussive grooves.

This special set for SEVEN has the energy of a live club set but was actually recorded in the artist's home studio in Hamburg.  It shows his current sound and features many of his favourite tracks of 2024.

Awakenings Podcast S322 - Dylan Fogarty

A new record for the longest RA Podcast ever: Ten hours from the powerhouse duo sweeping techno, Chlär and Alarico.

Both commanding performers in their own right, sparks fly when the Swiss-Italian duo of Funk Assault combine. The buzz surrounding their productions, DJing and their label Primal Instinct is at fever pitch, and short wonder: when it comes to gritty, high-impact sets that barrel through multiple shades of techno, few are in their league right now.

RA.960 was laid down at Watergate this March during a signature Funk Assault marathon. The pair ramp up incrementally, and even before they hit top velocity, you can hear them ripping through records with tenacity and verve. You don't need elbows in your face to tell the place is rocking.

We're informed that ID'ing the set would probably take longer than playing it (fair enough), so no tracklist for this one. Instead, fill in the blanks at your leisure. As well as 150+ BPM stompers and groove wormholes, there's everything from tribal to ballroom, electro to bassbin rattlers, and plenty of classics. 

As an encapsulation of a night out's full arc, RA.960 does the business—and best of all, you won't even need a trip to the bar for water. The gauntlet has been thrown down.
