The Love of All Existences

Two Spirit draws inspiration from James Broughton’s poem Androgyne. Broughton, a poet of the San Francisco Renaissance, was a forerunner of the Beat poets and a celebrated bard of the Radical Faeries. Founded by Harry Hay, the Radical Faeries drew upon Indigenous wisdom to imagine new pathways toward queer liberation.

The soft winds are now whispering low through the trees  
And the stars weave their songs on the cool velvet breeze  
All the shadows drift gently where silence does creep  
While the moon lays her hand on the world fast asleep  

The dark sky holds the night like a mother’s warm arms  
While the stars guard the dreams with their silver-lit charms  
Every thought softly fades in the calm of the night  
As the world drifts away in the moon’s gentle light  

All the worries grow small as the midnight winds sing  
Like the song of a river through time’s endless ring  
Let the dark fold around you, let peace take its place  
In the quiet embrace of the stars’ boundless space

Night’s Gentle Lullaby

Now is the time to stand with loss,
The warmth of summer lives only in dreams.
The oak stands bare, the earth is cold,
I stand at the far edge of the dark.

My eyes are wet with the tears of time,
The sun is hidden, the sky is black.
The world turns slowly into shadow,
The light feels distant, the night feels vast.

Let the darkness enter heart and mind,
For only from darkness does light arise.
When I loosen my hold on what is gone,
A quiet ember starts to breathe.

Out of the longest night,
Out of the deepest dark,
A quiet flame is born again,
A still small light, a living spark.

The light is reborn upon the Earth,
As it is reborn inside my soul.
A new fire moves within this circle,
And loss gives birth to light.
