Taken from Mat Playford's beautiful album... Solar. Made entirely in his solar powered studio using his array of analogue synths that he has collected over the years.

Hot off the back of his esteemed Kic 8462852 EP, that features an exclusive remix from Detroit techno legends Octave One, Mat Playford marks a return to Awesome Soundwave with Solar , a powerful and moving LP made up of ten original tracks. 

From its conception, Solar has been a project that has been held deep in Mat Playford’s heart. Having begun producing the LP at the end of 2016, in Mat’s own words it has been: “a long journey this project” but one that has resulted in a standout album on Carl Cox and Christopher Coe’s Awesome Soundwave imprint.  

Having moved to the South Coast of England in 2011, Mat Playford’s career in electronic music is a story to behold. From owning a record shop in Leeds, to holding a residency at Space Ibiza for seven years, it is in recent times that Mat’s passion for solar power has come to fruition, where he uses this to cultivate and grow his own chilli farm, as well as powering his studio.

Just in time for summer, and another huge season of gigs across the world, Maceo Plex returns to his own Ellum Audio with a sure to be huge new single.

This is Maceo’s first outing since his excellent Mutant Robotics release in 2018, but in the months since he has continued to be a leading light in the global house and techno scene. A spellbinding performer who takes the crowd into another dimension, the Spanish based American is just as adventurous in the studio and once again casts another magical spell with this new EP.

‘When The Lights Are Out’ is a ready-made anthem that serves up a seven- minute techno trip of the highest order. It is deep and masterfully melodic, of course, with slick drums setting an inviting mid-tempo pace and the melancholic chords adding lasting emotion to the groove. A heartfelt female vocal is the centrepiece that will get hands in the air this summer and ensure this record stays firmly lodges in record boxes worldwide.

Next to an instrumental, there is a Late Night Mix that is more driving and electrifying, with glossy synths shining bright in the expansive skies above the drums.

This is the sound of a melodic techno master at work and is another landmark release for both artist and label.

Senso Sounds continue their much lauded series of compilations of artists to watch with another four track EP of tough, funky techno. First up on Level 07 is BOHO - the artist moniker of Jannowitz Records & Jaw Dropping Records label head Lars Kohl. Jack Black is classic Senso - full of attitude and sense of purpose - beautifully crafted dance music that means business. Next up is DESNA - the New York artist and Output regular who has made her mark throwing controversial parties and producing fearsome techno cuts. Pop Gun is just that - firing drums, unnerving synth patterns and deep bleeps and FX - stunning stuff.
Marco Resmann is perhaps best known as one half of Luna City Express, but under his own name unleashes Northbound - a precision tooled techno monster aimed at destroying dancefloors from the first beat. Last up, Justin James, ‘refused.’ label head and Minus artist, drops Gonna Feel - a bleepy, acid tinged banger that features Dan Diamond’s spoken word vocals.
