Description: Dual-contact mic recording of strong winds resonating through a transmission tower in Los Angeles. Mics were each affixed to a leg of the tower, about 6' from the base. Winds were gusting at approx. 35-45mph (possibly higher). 96kHz, 24bit, and no processing of any kind.

All sounds, minus the deep percussion, from the (pictured) spring mounted to a wooden 2x2 stick, recorded direct with a contact microphone, played with fingers, a pencil, and a plectrum.

[SKETCH] Spring Knock

Dark ambient soundscape made entirely with DIY instruments made with springs and metal.

Tracking notes: Gong sounds are from a 12"x12" sheet of perforated cold-rolled steel in a handmade frame (pictured), rubbed and tapped with a high-friction rubber mallet, using two DPA 4061 microphones, one on each side (spaced A/B pattern, effectively, but pointing towards one another). Other sounds are from a custom wooden board with 5 stretched springs and part of a spring reverb tank, recorded with a Big Head Piezo from Cold Gold through a Triton BigAmp Piezo preamp. Both recorded straight to the DAW, effects by Valhalla DSP. Dynamics processing by Cytomic, FabFilter, and Voxengo plugins.
