Umwelt knows his craft. From his no-nonsense acid-drenched electro assaults to his more thought-provoking works, the Frenchman can shred speakers as well as soothe souls. These two sides of the New Flesh boss’ sound combine as he returns to Shipwrec with the ﬁve tracks of "Collapsar". Worlds collide in the epic “Galactic Empire.” Beats are lashed with punishing acid rinses as a bold cinematic backdrop takes form. “Collapsar” maintains the grandeur, broad expansive chords stretching above a plain of tight percussion. A frigid stuttering synthline introduces “Reﬂectivity”, a line that breaks into a horizon searching melody punctuated by crisp rhythms and arcing keys. The breadth and depth achieved across the EP is staggering, Umwelt balancing danceﬂoor electro with introspection. This immersive quality comes to the fore in the sweeping soundtrack of “Redemption Ark.” That calm is cracked wide open with the frenetic ﬁnale. “Day Zero” incises from the outset, drums cutting into bulwark of bass before a barrage of keys attack. The duo's collaborative magic didn't halt there. By August 2023, they graced the stages of Dekmantel Festival ’23 aan ’t IJ. With Feral's renowned prowess in audio engineering and Spekki Webu's described aptitude as a 'snake charmer' for his intricate selections, they lifted audiences to interstellar heights. Fans are abuzz with excitement for their forthcoming live-set project at Positive Education on the 4th of November.

Beyond their joint ventures, Spekki Webu's skills extend to sound design freelancing, and he is renowned in post-audio production for films. Feral, on the other hand, immerses himself in the heart of Rome, running a studio where he excels as a freelance mastering and mixing engineer for various clients.

For the third edition of our 'Insights' series, we had the pleasure of talking with Timo Deeprhythms - DJ and curator of deeprhtyhms.com, founder of Echocentric Records and co-founder of Coymix Ltd.  We covered a huge amount of ground over the course of an hour or so, discussing the inception of deeprhythms.com, Echocentric Records and Coymix, a highly influential Mono Junk mixtape, Solar Suite's 'Field Of View EP' and the Melbourne sound, plans for an Echocentric sub-label, advice for aspiring label-owners, producing, as well as Timo's personal experience of the Covid-19 pandemic as a creative and the broader effect on Helsinki’s music scene.
