Story behind the throwback release:

"I met REKS in 2007 in kind of the same way I met Moe Pope. My homie DJ ON&ON, who I was working with at the time, had a radio show on JAMN 94.5 called The Launchpad. There was a section of the show entitled “The Launchpad Cypher” which featured 3-4 Boston area MC’s paired with 1 producer. He did this every week for about 18 weeks and at the end, released all of them on a mixtape (which can be found online if you look hard enough). I ended up producing 4 of those weeks and developed a lot of relationships with some of the best in The Bean.

REKS and I maintained a friendship and continue working together to this day. This song is a sequel to the original “Rapanomics”, which featured Torae & Slaine, produced by Statik Selektah off of the “In Between The Lines” mixtape. “Rapanomics 2″ features Termanology & Sha Stimuli and is featured on the “In Between The Lines 2″ mixtape (I think I have a few joints on there). Big ups to REKS for showing me a lot of love. He’s definitely opened a lot of doors for me. Listen and enjoy y’all"

To celebrate Dephacation dropping next week I have chosen to take you all back to Return To The Golden Era to refresh your memory of what Awon & Dephlow sound like on a track produced by Phoniks. The idea behind this track came from a documentary on Liberia I saw that really had me bugging out in regard to how war torn and impoverished the country was. The documentary reminded me of the violence I have seen in America especially in the inner-city. We wanted to make a point that guns don't kill, people make the decision to do so. Dephlow also highlights the social injustice and racism that corrupts our judicial system all layered over a haunting piano laced track by Phoniks! In 2014, along with frequent collaborator Phoniks, he founded Don't Sleep Records.[2][3] Awon has shared the stage with many hip-hop acts including Little Brother, Common, EPMD, MC Lyte, and Oddisee.
