Phoniks is a 22 year old up and coming producer from Portland who has built a reputation online for his series of hip hop remix albums with classic/old school flare, 2011's "The Tape" and 2013's "Basement Vibes" and "Make Beats, Don't Sleep" have achieved success both domestically and internationally through his Bandcamp website. The idea behind this track came from a documentary on Liberia I saw that really had me bugging out in regard to how war torn and impoverished the country was. The documentary reminded me of the violence I have seen in America especially in the inner-city. We wanted to make a point that guns don't kill, people make the decision to do so. Dephlow also highlights the social injustice and racism that corrupts our judicial system all layered over a haunting piano laced track by Phoniks! Antwan Wiggins, born March 6, 1980 in Brooklyn, NY, is an American hip hop recording artist based in Newport News, Virginia.[1] He is know by his stage name Awon. In 2014, along with frequent collaborator Phoniks, he founded Don't Sleep Records.[2][3] Awon has shared the stage with many hip-hop acts including Little Brother, Common, EPMD, MC Lyte, and Oddisee.
