xl – Artist information 
After the collapse of the band “toi toi toy” (one of many throughout his musical career) and inspired by artists like Dub FX and ricoloop (loop station masters), xl decided to start his current solo project at the beginning of 2011. Well received performances at the Splashy Fen Music festival, at Steve Fataar’s Zackattack in Durban, as well as an exciting appearance at the inaugural Spogweni Flem festival introduced xl and his eclectic musical approach to the Durban music scene. Since a droning, babbling, ringing or screeching ukulele, is the central instrument of this one-man outfit, where traditional as well as experimental elements from a limitless variety of genres are backed up with contemporary beats, xl’s music is best described as progressive ukulele. The studio album ‘cornUKEopia’ is available at his gigs.

The summer of 2018 was highly emotional but also had this album with my dear friend Tarubva Ngulube and myself composed, played and with the technical help of the genius of Maxim Nikitin finalised. It captures friendship and mutual love of music ... so happy we did this.
