Stillness is a four-channel surround soundscape created in 2018 by sound artist James D. MacDonald III for Stillness immersive installation by Axel Cuevas Santamaría.  

Scientific facts about pollen wall and stomata mutations, flower sexuality, and  CRISPR/Cas9 genome modification technology, are revealed by the abstract, enveloping digital recordings of poems narrated by the voice of artist Natalia Sanchez.  These poems written by Axel Cuevas Santamaría are dedicated to the mutation and adaptation of the plantae kingdom to our human-altered ecosystems.

Stillness

Primal alchemy is a soundscape created by Axel Cuevas Santamaría during MCCA RawBox Artist Residency Spring 2019, for the exhibition Embracing Impermanence in Tepoztlán, Mexico.

In primal alchemy installation, visitors traverse an abandoned chapel beneath a schematic model of two fallen dead trees and a digital enveloping soundscape.

What does it happen when the trees fall without witnesses? 

Could we re-imagine the sounds of that fall? 

Perhaps, the unheard sounds of dying nature could serve as portals to our inner-journeys and the collapsing worlds outside from ourselves.
