Samoa Compilation

This is the first collaboration with James-Lee (aka Irunak), created mainly with synthesizers and some sound processing. The experiment started with my tune 'Ding an sich' (this time with guitar just as an accompaniment). James-Lee created the augmented passages in five segments with mysterious voices and archaic sounding instruments on and between this template. All together made the whole thing to a magical brew and unexpected journey for both of us.

This piece has cast a spell over many musicians for many years (for me it was the launching pad into the lifelong universe of jazz). Here is a small jazz impro, freely based on an old cuban folksong 🥥 while thinking of a forgotten old rum distillery, somewhere at an inaccessible beach in the caribbean tropics - a magical place that only a handful of people know about. Dance

The opening is dedicated to the wonderful music of John Coltrane. His ballad 'Naima' was the inspiration for the first part of this tune, played in one take. The second half is a spontaneously created latin jazz impro, played spontaneously in first takes too - on the rhythmic and the solo track. 

'Waters of Life' was generously featured over several months on Neworld TV in New York City (many thanks to Sasha Hohri for the big support).

Werners drums always offer me a perfect template to groove ahead. Time to pick up my old Fender Jazz Bass again and trying some crunchy stuff. The special thing here is that the guitar retreats to the second place. I'm not primarily a bass player, but in this tune that bass is the king.
