"The Emigrant" is a tribute to the painter Albert Bierstadt, who immortalized the dramatic scenes of the great European emigration to the United States. The piece focuses on the hope that emigrants took with them, gazing upon the words "Hope on the Lord" before setting sail. Upon arrival in America, their hope was transferred to the motto "In God We Trust," which appears on American banknotes. The composition captures the emotions associated with separation from their homeland, but also the hope for a new beginning. The message of the piece emphasizes the importance of faith and hope for emigrants, who are often called the descendants of devils. The entire piece is full of energy and optimism, reflecting the spirit of the times.
