I recently created a remake of Benga's classic tune Skank. Skank is such a seminal track that has stood the test of time and continues to slap wherever it gets played.

Benga used Music 2000 as a crucial tool in his early music production process. The PlayStation video game offered a wide range of virtual instruments and sound effects, which he used to experiment with different sounds and ideas. The accessibility and creativity offered by Music 2000 allowed him to develop his own unique style, characterised by heavy basslines, intricate rhythms, and futuristic soundscapes.

In this VIP, I went to great lengths to find and recreate the original samples used in the track. This approach has allowed me to bring a new level of authenticity and respect to Benga's classic sound.

Ghoulish returns to the label for his first Genre Release feature bringing with him singer songwriter Lollie for a soothing taste of Summer, which screams sunset from the rooftops.

Adam Harper aka Ghoulish stormed onto the UK music scene in 2021 with his intricate and powerful dancefloor-shaking production style. In less than a year of releasing new music he's received regular support from the legends of the rave scene such as Skream, My Nu Leng Holy Goof, Notion, Sammy Virji and Riz La Teef to name a few as well as being coined a UKF ones to watch in 2022.

Further to his impressive production, Ghoulish cut his teeth in 2018 with the sounds of dubstep and drum and bass, which has helped him incorporate a fast-paced, energetic and unique style to his own productions and DJ sets. His DJ sets are regularly filled with his own productions as well as rare dubplates and unreleased tracks from his favourite producers, spanning from UKG, grime, breakbeats, 4x4, 140, jungle and everything in between which makes the Mancunians sets hard to put him in a box - just how we like it.

Ghoulish devises anything from UKG and Speed Garage/Bassline to the depths of Dubstep and Grime whilst also being able to turn his hand to euphoric breakbeats and up-tempo rave cuts with ease, usually taking inspiration from those combination of genres in part and fusing them together.

His 2-track vinyl release on ec2a (1999/Buss It Up) in 2021 sold out in less than 10 hours and has been hugely sought-after since, which is how he first landed on 1Forty's radar. Fast forward 9 months later and a submission to the 1Forty Acapellas #2 project landed in our inbox in 2022, taking Logan's patois vocal from his and Hamdis 'Bun Dem Down' and turning it into a speed garage warper for one of the biggest UKG records on the label.

Lollie is a singer songwriter from London, who mixes the eerie tones of psychedelic electronics with soulful RnB. Despite her main inspiration from artists such as 070 Shake, Cleo Sol and Yebba, she also has firm interest in the underground music scene. Having only worked on self releases thus far four years into her journey as a vocalist, she was found by Ghoulish who had been scoping out a “dreamy-esque” voice for this project in particular when he came across her music.

Lollie describes her approach to creating music as evoking the listener to relax their mind and get lost in thought, which makes perfect sense as to how Ghoulish arrived at her as the chosen collaborator. With gigs at the likes of Soho House and getting booked for her first festival (which can’t yet be revealed), and her first label release, 2023 is looking like the year the UKG gets to know about Lollie.
