You just can’t explain the phenomenon of AIKO EL GRUPO. They are an incomparable group. Their sense of humor, their irreverent and totally unbiased attitude, their ever-greater taste in melodies and arrangements, and their infinite energy are all ingredients in a recipe that results in something unique and inimitable. And their new album confirms all of this. “Me están apuntando con un arma” includes eleven songs that are over in the blink of an eye, and which make us dance wildly, get angry, laugh and feel excited like teenagers.

And this was all just reaffirmation, because we had already heard that impossibly amazing “Niños furbito y niñas lo que sea”, that pouring out of bile that is “k pesao”, “Sexo Fender (Cenicero)”, the song that gives us the line “Me huele el pelo a cenicero” (My hair smells like an ashtray) to the beat of pounding guitars, or that strange love story (or not) that is “Romantinski”. Their ability to create XXI century anthems confirms hits like “GTA” (or the epic, according to AIKO EL GRUPO), “wormz” and “Peñacastillo”. To this amazing cocktail, we have to add collaborations with two groups that are also specialists in never taking their foot off the gas pedal. MUJERES kills it on “Soy una fracasada estúpida” and Olaya from AXOLOTES MEXICANOS does her thing with “Es la forma que tienes de ocultar algo que hay en tu mente”. Sparks fly from the record player needle. And we have to give a special mention to that marvelous “Love song”, that shows us that they also know how to make incredible harmonies, even get a little sweet, with elegance and inspiration. But just the right amount. All of this under the vigilant eye and ear of Carlos Hernández on the control panel, who is responsible for making magic and bringing out the best in everything he touches.

To listen to “Me están apuntando con un arma” is to take a ride on an apocalyptic roller coaster, where anything can happen. You can feel sick or feel the indescribable adrenaline rush. You can even fall in love, almost by accident. Join the crowds on the Spanish scene that are already singing along with their unique lyrics at their powerful concerts. And soon in their cars, in their living rooms or in the clubs with the best music.

Keep your eyes peeled for the vinyl edition (which will sell out fast, like their last album did), which includes a 4-sided fold-out poster. The poster, of course, will also be included in the CD Digipak edition.

"PUM PUM" es una canción energética y agresiva que juega con géneros como el punk y el post-punk, con una lírica violenta como un grito de auxilio ante la búsqueda incesante sobre encontrarse a ella misma y no lograrlo.

El sencillo fue producido por Loom Pen en el estudio de 2 Conejos, con guitarras de Maria Alegria, la mezcla y master corrió a cargo de Pepe Pecas.

Gloory Hole - PUM PUM!

AXOLOTES MEXICANOS have been around for over ten years now. When this adventure started everyone knew for sure they were going to mark the identity of a generation of music. They are capable of bringing together in one single song so many different influences – J-Pop, manga, the most disturbing punk, horror films… They represented the voice of a small majority restless, slippery spirits hungry for life and electricity. After all this time and several singles, a Mini-LP and three albums (including this “4ever” that we are introducing here), they are a super-group. The members have all developed diverse projects that have influenced the different sounds and scenes of the national panorama. Hold on tight because there are twists and turns: CAROLINA DURANTE, CONFETI DE ODIO, TEMERARIO MARIO, Stephen Please, NO FUCKS… But above all they are what they are because they have a frontwoman as unique and inimitable as Olaya Pedrayes. All of this, together with their personal sound, makes us think of them as a giant black hole in the punk-pop space, where we let ourselves get sucked in and abandon ourselves to the unknown and unimaginable energies.

This new “4ever” only confirms what we already know. Once again, they give us those incredible trademark punk hits, more powerful than ever, with the best choruses they’ve written to date, like “La canción que escribiste”, “S ! M P”, “Amarre”, “Al amanecer” and “ROSAS y ESPINAS” (with AIKO EL GRUPO!, what an electric collaboration), where we can hear the incredible production work of Juan Pedrayes himself, with mixing by Bernardo Calvo (who recorded CAROLINA DURANTE’s EPs), Felipe Quintans (LAS LIGAS MENORES, BESTIA BEBÉ… And winner of a Latin Grammy for EL MATÓ A UN POLICÍA MOTORIZADO’s “Unas Vacaciones Raras”) and Dani Alcover (DOVER, NIÑA POLACA, LA LA LOVE YOU). What a combination; so powerful.

Because they are who they are, and because they can, they throw caution to the wind and go for broke several times. Like that epic ballad that is “Incendio”. Like that exercise in luminous jazz that sounds like a tribute to “La La Land” called “miau ♪ miau”. Like that exquisite and summery bossa nova that is “Al atardecer”. The Japanese-accented calypso pop we get on “Himawari” and the J-Pop on “Plaza del sol”. It’s amazing.

They have always done what they felt like and they have always done it better than anyone. And they still do. And we still love them. If AXOLOTES MEXICANOS didn’t exist, they would have to be invented. Although no imagination in the world is enough to think something like this could exist. That’s why it’s even more amazing that they do. 4ever.

Here at Elefant Records, we continue to focus on fresh blood with our collection, “New Adventures In Pop”, and this time we want to talk about AIKO EL GRUPO. The band is based in Madrid, and is formed by Tere (guitar and vocals), Lara (guitar and vocals), Bárbara (keyboards and vocals) and Jaime (drums and vocals). Their freshness and aplomb (and anger) remind us of the punk-pop sound of groups like JOANNA GRUESOME, VERONICA FALLS and COMET GAIN, with touches of the riot grrrl spirit of American groups like LE TIGRE, BRATMOBILE and BIKINI KILL.

Their first Single includes two songs. “A mí ya me iba mal de antes” begins strong, with a string of memorable lines, full of rage and nihilism. “Prefiero tener suerte… A tener buen corazón” (I’d rather have good luck… Than a good heart) is the line that marks the chorus of a solid, furious song. It is impossible to not instantly empathize. The song is accompanied by “Si me conoces tanto (¿por qué me haces sufrir?)”, which is more melodic, but just as out of control (it reminds us so much of TIGER TRAP!), with that wild keyboard.

The group was initially formed by Tere (who now also plays in YAWNERS and REPION), Lara and Bárbara, in a night of alcohol and inspiration. Tere and Lara have known each other at Camargo Valley (Cantabria); Bárbara finished school in Lucena and moved to Madrid to go to university, and that is when she met Tere. The three of them would go to the rehearsal space that Tere had in Almendrales to pass the time, and they started coming up with interesting things. Basically, what brought them together was a shared feeling of spite from the three of them having had their hearts broken the year before, and they needed to get those feelings out with healthy anger and without falling into self-pity or sadness. They played their first concert (without Jaime) in Cantabria in a self-run festival in a space they have there. But Jaime was in the audience in that show, he saw them, and he offered to play drums with the group, and that same day they said “yes” and he completed the line-up. From there, they quickly got into recording their first songs in the Buran Studios (Puente de Vallecas neighborhood) with David Baldo, which led to this as the group’s first single.

Their attitude and nerve are an exercise in effervescence and youth. We cannot wait to see (and hear) everything they are capable of doing.

Axolotes Mexicanos is a band original from Asturias. Olaya and Stephen met in the school and decided to start a band. They completed their new group with Juan, Olaya’s twin brother. Today the group is based in Madrid and Lucas (Confeti de Odio) and Mario (Carolina Durante) joined to them.

Their sound goes from crazy punk to the most playful, demo-friendly electro-pop with energy, muscle, strength and a lot of ferocity. As gleeful and childlike as the music seems, the lyrics are decidedly less than innocent, with subject matter including revenge fantasies, relationships with extraterrestrials, and bitter loneliness.

The debut EP, Infectados was recorded and produced by Eva and Iván (Juniper Moon, Linda Guilala). It has a sound close to Alaska Y Los Pegamoides or Helen Love.

 Holi <3 followed in 2015. It shows clear tendencies toward the J-pop that came out of Tokyo’s Shibuya

In 2017 released Trececatorce, which was significantly more electronic: synthesizers taken from one of CAPSULE’s songs, harmonies and arpeggios that would make tofubeats’ heads explode, super high speed pulled from Plus-Tech Sqeezebox and punk guitars that give shape to a new collection of perfect pop songs.

The full-length Salu2 appeared in 2018. This is Capital letter POP, twenty-first century: euro-pop, disco, pop-punk… A sound close to Shampoo or Phoenix. But no, there’s autotune and twisted frequencies, we can talk also about tofubeats and Kero Kero Bonito… Capital letter POP 21st century.
