Chapter VII – “Brighter Days Ahead”


After the catastrophic mission inside Universe 7, the surviving Harrowguard ships drifted back into known space damaged, low on air, and carrying something they didn’t realize they brought with them: the Echo.


The Echo wasn’t a virus. It wasn’t physical.

It was a change in the signal. The Harrowlight Anthem now contained a second voice woven beneath it, faint but growing. A reflection that didn’t belong to anyone human.


At first, nobody noticed.

Morale was low, planets were failing, and people desperately needed a reason to believe the suffering had meaning. Rumors spread that the War Protocol was working, that the rewritten universes would stabilize, and that reconstruction could begin.


Someone whispered a phrase that caught fire across settlements and starships alike:

“Brighter days ahead.”


For the first time since the skies erupted, the words felt… possible.


The Hope Surge


Communities rebuilt shattered colonies.

Children played under artificial skylights.

Music returned softer, warmer, hopeful.

Even the Harrowguard loosened their grip on weapons long enough to breathe.


The Voice of the Veil broadcast a message that became the emotional core of the track:


“We’ve seen the worst of the universe.

If we can survive that, we can build something better.

Don’t let the future inherit our fear.”


People sang again.

Laughter returned to streets of reclaimed cities.

It felt like the first sunrise after a decade long night.


But Something Was Off


The positivity spread too quickly, unnaturally fast.

Hope became a wave, sweeping across worlds that barely had the resources to stand. Entire populations shifted overnight from despair to euphoric optimism.


The Harrowguard’s science division detected a pattern beneath the movement:

the same “Echo” signal that escaped Universe 7 was amplifying emotional response across networks, broadcasts, and even personal devices.


Hope wasn’t just spreading.

It was being broadcast.


A chilling discovery followed: the Echo reacted strongest when belief peaked. The more people hoped, the clearer the secondary voice became within the Harrowlight Anthem as if something was feeding on it.


The Smile Before the Storm


By the time the Harrowguard realized the danger, it was too late to stop the wave. Billions were now emotionally bound to a hope that was not entirely their own. The Creators had learned a lesson inside Universe 7:


If fear breaks civilizations…

hope can control them.


The chapter ends with a soft warning buried inside a whispered transmission, nearly lost under cheerful broadcasts:


“Be careful with the light you follow.

Not everything that glows wants you to be free.”


For now, the survivors celebrate.

They truly believe brighter days are coming.


And maybe they are.

But the universe has learned this truth over and over:


Right before the darkest chapter…

there is always a moment that feels like peace.
