MNMT Premiere: Adhémar  – The Growth Of Plants (Toki Fuko Interpretation)

Coming in as the 8th release from an incredible Prague based imprint Harmony Records, Reality Check is the second offering from label co-founder Alfred Czital, who followed up on his 2019 release, ‘Lippa’. Our focus for today lies nestled in between two of the more beat driven tracks, providing a nice juxtaposition to some of the harder tracks on the release.

Much like gazing down at the surface of a watery pool, Alfred Czital & Jamida’s collaboration Hermannstraße 176 evokes a sense of aural depth and serenity. Breath like pads swell and subside in the background, as bright textures snap in and out of existence. Creating a shimmering sonic backdrop as if the sun were dancing across a thousand small waves.

As a sign of solidarity, and an attempt to bring a shimmer of light into the current dark times, Monument has gathered a selection of tracks for a VA compilation. All profits from the release will go to the Norwegian Refugee Council’s fundraising campaign for the people of Ukraine, who need help now.

The diverse musical contributions were created by artists in over ten different countries - spanning from Scotland to Georgia, and Finland to Spain - reflecting the uniting power music can have beyond borders. The release’s sound palette ranges from introspective ambient pieces to dark and broken beats as well as more hopeful timbres.

Guiseppe Tillieci, Gianluca Meloni and Iacopo Sposaro from Enisslab studio have been so generous to offer the mastering for all the tracks. We wish to deeply thank both them and each of the contributing artists for lending their creative energy to this collaborative gesture for peace.

This EP is an invitation to travel to South East Asia and visit its ancient temples. Through its entrancing and repetitive patterns, the emanating energy from each place will stay forever in our memories. 

Starting off in Takshang, Nepal, the underlying throat singing will slowly transcend through the listener and prepare him for a meditative state of mind.

Next stop is the sacred site of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The faster pace and strong bass provide a more intense level of contemplation, where one’s sense of self is surrendered to life, nature and the past. 

Maintaining a high pace and hypnotic rhythm, Ranakpur’s softer tones and percussion take you across the Arvalli Range of Rajasthan to its spectacular temple, allowing a moment of tranquil reflection on recent experiences.

Ending the journey further East in Mongolia, Kan Bulak’s intensity comes from the multitude of musical layers which emerge throughout, implying a depth of spirituality, liberation, and emptiness - almost like nirvana.
