El Buho aka Robin Perkins, an Englishman living in Amsterdam, and Barrio Lindo real name Agustin Rivaldo, an Argentine living in the southern suburbs of Buenos Aires, have never met in real life. But through the power of the internet, they’ve teamed up to create, collaborate and file swap, birthing the 6 track EP, History of Colour. There’s something brewing in the Ecuadorian underground.  In 2015 ZZK Records introduced the world to the sensorial sound of Nicola Cruz, shortly after in 2016, Mateo Kingman.  This year has seen numerous projects emerging from Ecuador’s effervescent and vibrant scene, none more exciting than EVHA.   
 
It isn’t the past, it’s now, and it’s magical. El Viejo Hombre de los Andes, EVHA (The Old Man of the Andes), is a band formed by four creators who put heart and soul into everything they do: combining ritual dance rhythms, faraway plateau choirs and sacred songs with bold contemporary beats.
 
Recovering the ancestral protests of traditional Ecuadorian music (“Uiuí”), urgent calls for nature's protection (“Todo su cuerpo brilla”), the repetitive striking of the hoe in the field and the endless green of the forest. But also combining textures of laughter, deep rivers and majestical lakes, Ecuador’s magic captured in sound.  
 
We find refreshing and delicate electronic glitches transitioning into hip hop-influenced voices from mountain top ceremonies among fast looped marimba arpeggios, contrasting beats and touches of ambient.  This ethno-electronic experiment is full of flavors from various regions; sanjuanito, pasillo and bomba sample flirtations with ethereal beats. 
 
The record El Viejo Hombre de los Andes has a clear connecting thread, absorbing forms and colors from native Ecuadorian music and strengthening them into a tight conceptual construction with captivating and current sounds.

Lagartijeando is synonymous with pushing the contemporary Alt-Latin electronic scene forwards along with his contemporaries Nicola Cruz, Cancha Via Circuito and El Buho. Strongly influenced by his travels through Latin America, his signature psychedelic electronic tracks blend everything from traditional folk from the Bolivian alti-plano to the jungle beats of Brazil. 

Since signing to ZZK records (Nicola Cruz, Cancha Via Circuito) in 2009 he has gone on to release on Waxploitation (Gnarles Barkley, Dangermouse) and Wonderwheel Recordings (Nickodemus, El Buho) where his latest album entered the Bandcamp top 100 albums of 2017. Renowned for beautiful textures and layers in his production work, Lagartijeando has garnered support from the likes of The Fader, Remezcla, KCRW, NPR and many others. 

Caboclo is Portuguese for a person with mixed indigenous Brazilian and European ancestry. The three track EP meshes Afro-Brazilian rhythms with Chacarera and house beats. The EP is a celebration of the changing cultures and sounds of Latin America.

Lagartijeando - El Malon Del Gaucho Molina

The indigenous cause is an urgent one not only in terms of territory but also when it comes to the preservation of the vast native Brazilian culture and Brazilian singer-songwriter Marlui Miranda has been dedicating herself for almost four decades to keep their music alive (she's a doctorate on native Brazilian music, so you know). 

In 1995, Marlui released the album "Ihu: Todos os Sons", a collection of native Brazilian chants she gathered in her field researches and released only in CD through two small labels (one in the US, the other in Brazil). This research started in 1986, funded by the John Simmon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and it investigated the sounds of different tribes in the Rondônia state, northern Brazil, namely the Suruí, the Makuarap, the Aruá, the Tupari and the Jaboti tribes - the latter being the one identified with the "Tchori Tchori" chant, which praises a bird called biguá. 

The haunting, beautiful melody of "Tchori Tchori" couldn't get a better companion than the exquisite musical palette of Uakti, one of Brazil's greatest instrumental groups, known for creating their own instruments (you've heard them before in Selva Discos alongside Maria Rita). That's what the listener gets on the A side of this release - the deep sound frequencies of a 45RPM cut, fully remastered, of a song never put on a vinyl record before.

so blessed to share this recorded set from the powerful gathering Initiation i was delighted to be a part of . this set was during the opening evening of this gathering opening our subtle bodies and setting the intention for the journey ahead. it was a blissful experience and im so happy to share this magical vibes with everyone . my heart is open full of gratitude for all the amazing musicians producers and way showers creating such beautiful sounds and tunes for our healing and pleasure.
