"Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Ayesha lines up a four-track EP with Scuffed Recordings, channelling percussive techno, breaks, and bass.

The Potential Energy EP bears all the hallmarks of the sonic universe that Ayesha has made her own on previous releases for the likes of Fever AM, Kindergarten Records, Control Freak, and Daytimers.

Aptly-named opener ‘Potential Energy’ is a rallying cry for the current moment in dance music, as clubs in parts of the world begin to open and ravers release the pent-up energy of the past eighteen months.

‘Ecstatic Descent’ is up next and lives up to its title with euphoric arpeggios sprinkled liberally over heavy, syncopated breaks.

Third track ‘We Be Bubblin’ encapsulates Ayesha’s approach to sound design and sample selection, with playful bubbling sounds and vocodered vocals dancing over driving percussion.
Ending the EP is ‘Dark Matter’, the fastest and heaviest track of the bunch, which saw its first outing during Yung Singh’s already-legendary Boiler Room set as part of the Daytimers takeover."

‘No Cash in Booth’ is a Bandcamp exclusive digital music compilation by Brooklyn-based record label Eto Ano, supporting the decriminalization of fare-beating on the New York MTA. Sixteen New York-based musicians express their dissent towards the over-policing of the MTA.

The compilation is calling for the passing of NYS Senate Bill S581 and NYS Assembly Bill A6119, which would both decriminalize fare-beating, and is also pointing towards other measures of accountability over the NYPD such as making the NYPD commissioner an electable position.

The only prompt given to compilation participants was “music of resistance”. Across the 18-track release, we hear sounds of the New York subway interspersed between ambient tracks, New York house, UKG, bass music, acid techno, and more. 

Label profits from the compilation sales are split between the National Lawyers Guild New York Chapter, which provides legal support to those protestors and victims of police repression, and The Legal Aid Society, which provides essential legal services to low-income New Yorkers.

Another afterhours journey at Nowadays on Oct 15th for your listening pleasure :) 

This set was like driving a fast car (I never learned to drive). Started at 150BPM  but then I took it down a couple notches as the night came to a close.  Expect lots of wub wubs, chill techy moments, juke n jungle, spiraling electro, loads of percs, and of course: surprising edits (it was a Saturday night after all!).

Last min summer jams featured on my girl Maieli's show Mimosas and Samosas on Waxx Worldwide (on 8/26/18 - 13:00 PST).

Ayesha’s performances reflect a playful curiosity and a decade of experience honed in DC and NYC’s vibrant club and warehouse party scene. As a beloved resident at Nowadays, she weaves through percussion-based techno, breaks, garage, and everything in between, delivering heady, maximal body music tailored for the dancefloor. As a DJ, her style is eclectic and dynamic, drawing from North America’s techno underground, leftfield UK sounds, and her Indian heritage.

Ayesha is gaining recognition as a producer of forward-thinking club music. Her music, hypnotic, pulsating and powerful, is as fitting at a deep forest festival as it is in a sweaty basement or dark nightclub. It's crafted with meticulous sound design, spongy textures and alien melodies. She writes tracks with deliberate consideration for how bodies move – and how music moves bodies – making her work unusually tactile and physical.

Her 2021 EP, ‘Potential Energy,’ released on UK label Scuffed Recordings, marked the beginning of her rise. Subsequent releases on Fever AM, Control Freak, and contributions to NYC label Eto Ano’s ‘No Cash In Booth’ compilation further solidified her status. Her debut album, ‘Rhythm is Memory,’ released on Kindergarten Records in 2022, was lauded as “a revelation” by DJ Mag and “a fierce mission statement” by Resident Advisor. Mixmag placed her at number two on its list of the 25 Producers Who Defined 2023. This year, Ayesha is set to debut her live set at MUTEK Festival in Montréal, signalling an exciting new chapter in her career.
