Nikesa, frontman and founder of Ayo Lila, is a nomadic troubadour whose music weaves a vibrant tapestry of folk, funk, reggae/dub, calypso, country, psych, and rock, blending the raw soul of classic sounds with a fresh, uplifting groove. Born in Los Angeles, he grew up in Jakarta (where his dad is from) before moving back to the USA and going to high school in the Seattle area. He’s journeyed through cities like Honolulu, Philadelphia, New Orleans, and Paris, infusing his work with a universal spirit that reflects diverse cultures and stories. With a background in religion and mental health counseling, Nikesa crafts songs that are both a sonic embrace and a philosophical voyage, channeling Bob Marley’s unifying spirit into lyrics that dissolve boundaries between self and universe.

Nikesa’s music pulses with groovy rhythms and introspective depth, exploring themes of unity, resilience, and transcendence. His primal, passionate vocals, inspired by artists like Joe Strummer, Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, Thom Yorke, Animal Collective, and Bob Marley, ignite a visceral connection to the journey. Drawing from studies in spiritual traditions and psychology, Nikesa’s compositions invite listeners to dance through life’s complexities while embracing oneness.
