About the Composer:

 Johnny Edwards is presently the Director of Choral Activities at Newton High School in Covington, Ga. As a veteran teacher of 19 years, he has enjoyed the opportunity of teaching at both the Middle and High School levels and composing for all of his groups. He also serves as the Minister of Music of Children at the Berean Christian Church in Stone Mountain. He obtained his Bachelors of Music Education degree from Armstrong Atlantic State University and his Masters of Music Education degree in Choral Conducting from Georgia College and State University. His other musical achievements include arranging music for the 1996 Closing Ceremonies for the Summer Olympics and for the grand champion of the Savannah Onstage National Singing Competition. He has worked as music director for several musicals, which include The Wiz, Annie, Oliver, Anne of Green Gables, Rent, and several others. His choral groups have consistently received superior and excellent ratings at festivals and contests in each school that he has taught.

"Jesusita en Chihuahua" is a Mexican polka which was written by Quirino Mendoza y Cortés while he was serving as a Lt. Colonel in the Mexican Revolution and directing the military band in Puebla. Its premiere was held on Christmas Day 1916 and it has since been covered by a multitude of artists, under a variety of names. The composition became a trademark of the Mexican Revolution and was Pancho Villa's favorite musical piece to have his bands play during combat. The piece centers on soldaderas; women who accompanied the revolutionaries, tending to their needs and on occasion even taking up arms to participate in combat.

The Three Piano Miniatures of Lajos Delej (1923-1945) were a birthday gift from Delej to his sister Livia Delej Lengyel on the occasion of her 25th birthday, March 14, 1940. The music is technically simple, classical in its phrasing and form, and was written when the composer was about fifteen years old.  
 
These piano miniatures are virtually all that survive of Delej's musical output, and his only surviving manuscript. A concert programme from June 1942 indicates a Violoncello Sonata in three movements; five songs on poems by Heinrich Heine; and a String Quartet in three movements. Delej perished in 1945 at the Buchenwald concentration camp.
