As I persist with the modest yet deeply impactful loops that I’ve been crafting through the Alesis Strike Pad Pro, my journey towards studio recordings remains on track for the anticipated arrival in the Fall of 2025. 

In this latest offering, we present yet another composition heavily inspired by the unique sound of Sleep Token (STID). 

This piece has been meticulously developed over several weeks, involving a careful and deliberate approach of playing each line individually on the Alesis Strike Pro. (And much like the previous piece II, I must say this particular creation has its own charm.) 

I sincerely hope you find enjoyment in this work. If you are curious to know what I have learned about II, I'd say:

The Gospel Influence: One of the most remarkable and unexpected features of II's drumming is his gospel-inspired sound. The ghost notes, intricate hi-hat patterns, and the emotional depth he brings to his performance carry a soulful weight that recalls the essence of gospel drumming. It’s not merely about technical skill; there’s a heartfelt quality that enhances the music’s intensity and infuses it with spiritual resonance. Just listen to subtle details in tracks like "The Offering" or "Higher"; you can almost feel the heartbeat of a church rhythm section supporting the heavier elements.

The Djent Foundation: This is the solid groundwork of much of Sleep Token's music, and II masterfully navigates its complex, syncopated rhythms with remarkable precision and strength. His tight, driving patterns and often dissonant polyrhythms are executed flawlessly, creating that trademark hypnotic and powerful sound. He becomes a vital part of its rhythmic structure, locking in with the guitars in a way that is both forceful and nuanced.

The Unique Blend of Jungle and Future Garage: This is where II truly stretches the limits of contemporary drumming. By incorporating broken beats and delicate ghost note patterns that echo the rapid-fire snare work found in Jungle, alongside subtle atmospheric textures reminiscent of Future Garage, he adds a level of intricacy and sophistication seldom heard in this genre. It’s not about merely stacking these elements; it’s about seamlessly weaving them into the overall rhythm. His use of space and silence, along with unexpected shifts in groove, often mirrors the dynamic changes characteristic of these electronic styles.

The Thoughtful Integration of Electronics and the Strike Pad: As a fellow Strike Pad enthusiast, I appreciate its potential to enhance the sonic landscape. However, II goes beyond using it for flashy fills or simple samples. He intricately incorporates electronic textures and percussive elements into the heart of his playing. These sounds interact with his acoustic kit, blurring the lines between the organic and the synthetic, adding layers of atmosphere, accent, and rhythmic complexity that a traditional drum kit alone couldn’t offer. It’s a true conversation between acoustic and electronic sounds, enriching the sonic tapestry of Sleep Token.

What sets II apart is not just his technical skill across these diverse styles but his ability to blend them into a cohesive and unmistakable voice. This showcases his musicality and understanding of how rhythm can create emotion and atmosphere. He isn’t just keeping time; he’s actively shaping the emotional landscape of Sleep Token’s music.

It’s genuinely exciting to see a drummer break new ground in heavy music. II’s inventive approach is a significant part of what makes Sleep Token so enthralling and why they resonate so deeply with both musicians and fans alike.
