Len Faki - Obliteration Of The Berghain

2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

As the dust finally begins to settle after the release of Pan-Pot's massive album 'The Other', it's time to unleash a collection of heavy hitting reworks from the best and brightest stars of todays techno elite. Through careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, we couldn't be more elated to confirm ten artists we know and love to contribute their unique vision to Second State's first ever remix package.

Kicking things off with a heavily twisted alteration of 'Attention' is Nicole Moudaber and it's a tangled, dark trek through dense acoustic layers of audible madness. Next up is the Hamburg duo

Extrawelt with their twist on 'Optimistic Grey' and they deliver a beautiful blend of emotion and groove they are synonymous for.

Following suit is another passionately romantic number from man of the hour, Stephan Bodzin, and his take feels like floating through a sea of clouds, resulting in a timeless classic to be a focal point in any set for years to come.

Next in line is Ray Kajioka's take on '808 Nirvana' and it's a cosmic ride, ripe with swirling atmospherics laid over big churning drums and rolling cymbals.

Following up on the second 12“ of this LP is a man who needs no introduction: Carl Cox. And in true Coxy fashion he turns 'Riot' into just that: a big room, tension building monster!

Broken Engine' is the next track to get worked over and Wigbert delivers a stunning mix of shimmering tones and growling bass resulting in a lush venture through a cosmic backdrop of flickering stars in deep space.

Joseph Capriati ensues with his vision of 'Fugitives' and he brilliantly keeps the vibe of the original yet adds his trademark big room flair to take it to another level of driving euphoria.

Enlisting the talents of Alan Fitzpatrick to remix one of the slower listening tracks on the album turned out to be magic. With his signature percussion, Fitzpatrick takes the parts and creates a dive deep into sultry smooth waters of seduction.

The first of our last two remixes, which are digital exclusives, come from Paul Ritch and he delivers a grinding rendition of 'Riot', expertly crafted for the more euphoric peak time occasions.

Last and certainly not least is a man on the rise, Kevin Knapp with his twist on his own collaboration with Pan-Pot: 'Get In'. An expertly crafted tech house jam exploding with energy and attitude perfect for any moment, day or night, indoors or out.

No matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone and we are truly fulfilled and honored to present this package of cutting edge artists to celebrate this landmark moment. We know you will enjoy!

Next up on Gem Records is the Christian Smith & Wehbba remix of Point Blank AKA Secret Cinema - Meng’s Theme which served as inspiration for Adam Beyer to start making techno back in ‘94. The re-release is part of the SILVER project celebrating Secret Cinema’s 25 years in music and comes with a brand new remix by Christian Smith & Wehbba. The EP is ready to hit digital stores on August 19th. A total of nine Secret Cinema classics will be re-released with remixes both digital and vinyl as part of the box set SILVER.

Senso Sounds is Oliver Huntemann's label for underground dance music, based out of Hamburg and already racking up an enviable back catalogue of releases. Kickstarting a new series of EPs with new exclusive tracks from different artists, Senso Sounds Level 01 dives right into the thick of it with four brand new killer tracks from the roster.

First up is the man himself Oliver Huntemann, dropping 'Kamikaze' for our listening pleasure. Techy and funky, the track builds and builds over seven and a half minutes - a driving groove pro- pelled by urgent drums, a swirling bassline and a think, mutating synth line. A suitably epic way to kick off the series.

Next up, Brazilian techno don Victor Ruiz teams up with danish Noir for 'I Am' - a pulsating, heady slice of techno for the floor with conjuring vocals by Cari Golden.

Venetian veteran Veerus provides 'Mind Awake, Body Asleep' - a hymn to the techno lifestyle wrapped in a dark and punishing groove. 

Rounding off the EP is Julian Wassermann with 'Neurose' - the much-rated German producer staying on message with another deep, growling tech bomb for the early hours.

For the next release on the unrelenting and genre pushing Hot Creations imprint, musical masterminds Skream and Tom Demac join forces for the first time to deliver the electro bomb EMF. Label head Jamie Jones offers yet another standout rework to add to his ever expanding catalogue.

EMF was specifically made for Skream’s Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1. He explains, “ it was picked up by Jamie and then finished down at Devon Analogue Studio.” Breakbeat rhythms and a pounding bass kick off proceedings as the track unfurls with dramatic synths that culminate in an epic build up, dropping into the intricate electro melody. Jamie provides a mammoth rework as he steers the original into the realm of house. Holding onto the core elements, he adds his signature stamp with an unmistakable bassline.

As one of the UK’s best-loved selectors Skream’s early origins can be found in dubstep before he made a transition into disco, house and techno. He has been signed to a variety of labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Objectivity and We Are The Brave. He’s also produced a constant flow of remixes for labels like Domino, Warner, FFRR, Sony, Hot Creations. Parallel to these pivotal releases he also showcased his eclectic tastes at his I FEEL... and Open to Close parties across the UK and the rest of the world.

North Wales native Tom Demac first came to attention via his own Electronique Audio imprint in 2004 but it’s his affiliation with Hypercolour that really kick started his ascension to being a global force within the house and techno scene. His passion for performing live has seen him play from DC10 to Freerotation. He’s also released on a number of labels including a collaboration with Duncan Jones of Silverclub and an EP on Kompakt with Real Lies.
