Incidentally, the word of heart slipped through my tongue,

Speaking truth has become torture for us,

Because of our tongue we have prepared our nemesis.

 

We brought in dalda from outside,

And sold our butter in market,

We sold our milk cow,

With it gone the benedictions.

 

Our wine cellars have disappeared,

And water mixed with spirits,

My life keep drowning and floating,

In the whirlpool of apprehensions.

 

My views have become throne in the yes,

Of the sellers of my land,

Azeem used to lay his life for truth,

For the land my neck was severed.

Welcome to my SoundCloud channel.
I am Azeem Hunzai, a vocalist from the majestic Hunza Valley in Northern Pakistan. I aim to share the celebration of Gilgit Baltistan’s rich cultural heritage through folk songs and resistance poetry. I mostly sing in my Indegunious language isolate called Burushaski. I also sing in Khowar, Shina and Urdu. Across centuries the poetic intellectual tradition remains the heartbeat of folklore and resilience against political exploitation and alienation. Our indigenous intellect has been transmitted orally through poetry and yet not adequately scribed. Through my music, I aim to honor our heritage, preserving fading tunes and giving voice to the silenced. Each song is a tribute to our past, and a promise to the future to keep our culture heritage alive.
